An Honest Question

Even taking out the vastly superior Zekrom in gen V, Is it really worth it to spend rare candy on Raikou? i mean it's level 15, we're heading into a gen of Dragons, theres no electric weak legendaries (manaphy and phione will likely be research pokemon) Kyogre already passed by, and compared to a possible level 25 raid electabuzz, even if electavire doesnt get wildcharge, it will still be much easier to get to higher levels with a lot less of the cost, so the DPS trade off may honestly be worth it if it means saving rare candy for the many much better and more useful legendaries both to come and already out, and there doesnt seem to be much of a place for it on gym offense as other pokemon can deal with water and flying types

So would powering up really be worth it?.

Powering up one at this point, from level 15, doesn’t seem very practical.

Like they did with Zapdos, they could do a Raikou day with a new move.

I would save dust and rare candy for when gen4 hits and we will see how that plays out.

I dont think they;d give an exclusive move on a raid day, given what happened on zapdos day

but its also that raikou isnt useful, there not any pokemon that are weak to electric that are coming up, a good number will actually be resisting it, I dont think any are any electric weak pokemon in gen IV that other pokemon wouldn't be able to deal with, and gym clearing is a nonexistent problem as instinct (my team) controls the area most of the time

What happened on Zapdos day was massive raiding activity. A little bit of an outrage online doesn't matter one bit when Niantic looks at the money they raked in. Their conclusion is probably that a minor subset of players aren't happy, but that the majority love 3h exclusive moves.

Nah, there's no way to make the conclusion like that because Articuno didn't have an exclusive move, and also had massive raiding activity. So taking the point the majority love the 3H move explaining it, would be bad business.

The problem for Ninatic, is they won't have any data on whether the outrage is real for months. Regis are low priority target.
You won't know if the threat of an exclusive move reduces raids on daily basis until new legendaries come out.

The problem a lot of people who are outraged talked about is "Why buy tons of passes for Kygore 1.0 when eventually Kygore with Exclusive Move" will come out.

Seeing if that outrage is real or fake won't be noticible until something worth raiding comes out.

Pinap research catches, catch a shiny on Raikou day and pinap that...it is good enough to use whatever Raikou candy you earn toward powering it up. Distance ultra trade your extras.

I use mine bc it is maxed, I have a 2nd one at 3000 I never use. I can’t imagine any scenario where I’d power up another one or even strengthen my 2nd one. Probably just trade any new ones.

The question wasnt really about just powering upo from candies, and I dont think a raikou day will happen given zapdos day, it was mostly about is raikou even worth it to put the dust in? Even if it does get a raid day, Raikou, for as good as it is, doesnt really have much of a purpose, it wont be good agaisnt the legendaries. Its strong yes, but in a neutral match up, pokemon with a type advantage would be better suited to the task

Yes, August can be Raikou candy month with 5 pinap catches and then we can trade it with a long distance (> 100 km) Mon for another 3 candies. It's worth having for the future, no harm in keeping a couple level 15 Raikou in our bloated storage boxes.

I dont think it will be worth. At least not at the moment. Like you said, there is no important raid boss weak to electric at the moment nor in the near future. Kyogre already made his shiny comeback.
I will keep my Raikous at lvl15 until I see a need for them.

I am not powering up a single Raikou when it become a hype in 1st Kyogre appearance.
Yes it is superior in Kyogre with Blizzard, but then what ? I live in a grass biome and Exeggutors, Venusaur (still Solar Beam), Victrebell (Sceptile still new at that moment mine not ready yet) is good against 2/3 moveset. Most people affraid on short maning Blizard Kyogre anyway and choose to use large group on it.
Even then, Raikou need to power up around lv 35 and up, otherwise it is the same as grass counter being one shot by blizzard also.
Some trainers has resources to make a squad of Raikou, even max out full 6 of it, i am not. And i am not keen on spending my resources for one hit wonder, despite many trainers praise for it.
For gym when there are high level Gyarados with full motivation, Jolteon does well, always has been..

Awesome that this will be a generation of dragons, I needed a whole new batch (actually did trade away two 3250 Dragonite last week)

I think being worth it is subjective. Objectively at the moment no, and meta wise you answered your own question.

As much as I like to be meta AF I also like powering up things I enjoy. Infernape might be outclassed by all of the fire starters but I’ll waste all of my dust getting him close to max because he’s my favorite Pokémon. He is going to be top 3 electric type for most of the whole series, I think there are worse things to power up imo

Personally, I won't power up a second raikou. I regreted having powered my best zapdos. After zapdos day it's outclassed by himself and there's no way to recycle all the stardust and rare candy invested.

I will probably trade away the new raikous for long distance pokemon to get +3 candy.

Personally I like having one Raikou for fighting gyms, it's one of the best attackers for that in my opinion. It covers some semi-popular defenders in Gyarados, Milotic and Vaporeon, has good neutral damage and is very tanky. It can often take care of 2 water types and a fairy type for example. It'll only get better with the introduction of Togekiss in gen 4 which I assume will be an autoinclude in every strong gym between Blissey and Chansey.

My Raikou has thousands of wins, so powering it up was certainly the right choice for me. But the gymclearing team is everyone's personal preference, beyond that I don't see much use for Raikou.

I have one maxed and another at 32. I maxed one out because I enjoy using him and he still is a great counter to the water types put in gyms. The only time I used both Raikou for raids was during the Kyogre reboot.

If you manage to complete 5 Raikou research tasks and pinap all of them, you will get enough candy to get it to level 22...
You're right, no need to power one up right now, the many Jolteons we'll have during Eevee CD will cover any Gyarados in a gym or any non legendary raid boss decently. And gen IV is promising. Keep your Raikou candies for when a true reason to power up Raikou arises.

Jolteon is really fragile for a Gyarados counter.

Sure, but it still does the job for a way lower cost. Raikou is better if you have one reasonably powered up, but it's not worth powering up a Raikou just for taking down Gyaradoses in gyms IMO. Just get 2 Jolteons, it's still cheaper ^^

Unless a water type T4 comes out that has everyone hot and bothered I wouldn't invest the dust and candy. It's unfortunate because Raikou is a champ in battle, there sadly isn't anything for him to fight right now.

Box legendaries in general have gotten a bad hand so far. Being level 15 does them no favors from a resource investment standpoint and the possibility of a 3 hour Raikou raid window a few months later begs the question of why bother?
