Is Regirock worth raiding this close to Gen 4?

It is the best of the Regis, showing up in top 8 Ho-Oh and Moltres counters. But with the threat of Rampardos and Rhyperior, is it worth it?

It's certainly worth getting one for the pokedex entry.

I'd argue that it's worth getting more than one. We don't know what changes will happen to the game. Maybe you have to somehow trade in one each of the Regis to get a Regigigas, in which case we should have several. But since we don't know what we need, or what we will get going forward, get some. I mean, there might be some new challenge where you get to bring in one Pokemon, and it has to survive something challenging. The Regis would all do well in this kind of challenge, so have a few, just in case.

I say this as someone who has exactly one Registeel (but it's a 100%), and exactly one Latias. Should have gotten 2-3 Latias, but was busy. Will get a few more Registeel, and anticipate getting several Regirock. (Got 10 Regice, went 10/10 on catching them, a few have good IVs).

(And yes, it is tempting to 'retire' from Registeel with a perfect record, 1/1, 100%, but I'm going to catch a few more when I get the time.)

I'm 4/4 on Registeel following up 11/11 Regice. It's really tempting to retire as well, especially since I have a 96% Registeel.

You should be working for niantic :D

It is always worth using your free pass. T5 gets you the biggest rewards so yeah go for it.

The Regis themselves are garbage and worth nothing more than the dex entry.
Lets say high hypotheticaly they make defending great again (which means 10 slots & allowing legendaries) it might get worth it.

But yeah, should defensive legendaries become viable somehow the Regis will likely be a nice asset to have, potential exception being Registeel. Regirock would likely be the better one of the trio.

Get a couple for your Pokedex/Inventory. Then ignore the rest T5 just isn't worth the hassle of finding groups. Solo T3 the rewards are pretty much the same except for XP and without the hassle of people flaking on you and time wasted waiting. Collect as much Kirlia as possible and don't evolve them Gardevoir will eventually be a community day event so collect them, trade them for a chance to get Lucky and save em.

What would they give gardevoir a community day for? It cant learn the other fairy move and any psuchic moves would still be inferior to dazzling gleam in terms of usefulness

That and gallade wont get one either due to special evolution requirements

The starter days and Larvitar day set a bad precedent that community days need to offer meta-relevant moves instead of fun novelty moves. I agree that barring new move additions and/or breaking of their own rules Gardevoir won't get a better moveset, but that's not reason enough to exclude it.

And the Dawn Stone requirement for Gallade can easily be mitigated by making it widely available through research during the 3 hour window. Research has actually introduced a lot of possibilities for community day.

Thats still leaving out Gallade are gender locked, only male kirlia can evolve into them

Plus what would the point of saving a pokemon for a CD that isnt relevant if that pokemon is in high demand before it, gardevoir's a fantastic mewtwo, machamp and likely palkia counter? Thats really what I didnt understand

So what, like you're not going to find a decent Ralts of each gender on a theoretical community day? LIke housunkannatin mentioned too, Eevee says hi. Special evolution requirements clearly aren't a factor.

If it gets a move that's more novelty less meta then people won't hold onto as many of them, that's true. It's not like I held onto a bunch of Dratini for Dratini day. Doesn't mean people won't hold onto at least one or two for shits and giggles and it doesn't mean people won't be interested in going out after it for the candies or shinies if nothing else.

Yes, but eevee;s event is just a move for eevee, from what is currently stated, thus the special evolution requirements is a moot point (considering the only special requirements are for espeon as you cant get an umbreon during the day without the name trick, which most players have already used, and it likely wont be possible to walk 10k with ore than one eevee captured on that day during those 2 days, or the possibility I hope for, where this is all just a ploy for its gen IV evolutions for each day)

As well as the gender spilt, I do agree, it is likel to get a good one of each gender, but it is still possible to not get one (I mean tyrantiar's a 50-50 gender split, all the raid ones i've caught, 7 of them, all are female)

YEs even if the move isnt relevant, there will still be people who are mad that they didnt evolve/power up it so they could use it sooner(soemthign that will likely happen if they make signature moves available to previously caught legendaries), and yes, there will still be people who do keep it, (my 96 dragonite has draco meteor, the only one I evolved that day, and yes I know outrage is better, but it is still comparable to outrage). But most people do care about the move, yes the candy is important too,i agree with you there.

It doesnt seem plausable given the number of factors against it; the special requirements for gallade, and the only way to give it a better psychic move would be to make it very overpowered, or to give it a fairy move would need to remove another fairy charge move (which would also require some rebalancing as I dont think they'd let only gardevoir have a fast move of something like disarming voice while the others need it as a charge move, which would also make togekiss largely irrelevant if it also gets a double fairy set). Yes, they could remove the shiny stone for gallade, but they cant remove the gender lock, or give gardevoir a better moveset. im aware theres holes in my argument, but there is a lot going against Ralts getting one

YEs, I would be happy to have one, Its frequently cloudy here, and with the partly cloudy larvitar day I got a lot of good IV and high level wild catches, plus the massive load of stardust i'd love another one of those, but I just dont think its likely

In addition to Dawn Stones, research for the 3 hour window may now reward exclusively male Ralts encounters. Problem solved. Before you imply otherwise, yes they absolutely could do this if they were able to make sunglasses Squirtle research exclusive.

People always get mad at stuff in Pokemon Go, some points being more justifiable than others. This is the ultimate "can't please everyone" game. People only care about the move if it's better than available options. No one cared about Draco Meteor Dragonite or Dragon Pulse Ampharos because they weren't any better than existing versions of themselves or of other attackers with the same role. This whole issue wasn't apparent until Frenzy Plant came along.

No one - literally no one but you - is saying whatever move they get would need to make them the best of their type. They're not going to invent something stupidly broken to make Gardevoir better than the lake trio, much less Mewtwo. If we're being honest with ourselves, Azelf is really the only one in the trio with potential to be "better" to begin with.

Admittedly the fairy front is a lot trickier since it would require hard coded move changes or rule-breaking. Here's a hypothetical; Watch Ralts naturally get Fairy Wind in Gen 8 and render all of this a moot point. EDIT: Or make Charm a fast move? While true it does no damage in the main series, they'll eventually need to add that or Baby-Doll Eyes if they plan to keep Eevee's evolution requirements for Sylveon intact.

Ralts is rare, Gardevoir is popular and many people would like extra candy to prepare for Gallade. Ralts CD would probably have very good attendance regardless of what they do with the exclusive move and that's what matters. The goal is to get people to attend, the exclusive move is literally just one tool in the toolbox to help with that. The exclusive move is nowhere near what Niantic actually cares about, which is attendance and revenue.

As for the exclusive move matter, they could easily retcon Disarming Voice into a fast move and give it to Gardevoir or bend the rules to give it Fairy Wind. Or give it a psychic charge that outranks DG against fighting types which would upgrade Gardevoir's main offensive utility.

Ralts rarity was major league cut back by the kirlia raids, getting more candy, guaranteed better IV's, higher level and being consistently available, that was likely done to compensate for its rarity in the wild as it cant be hatched unlike the similarly rare dragon types

The special evolution requiremtn is that gallade must be male, female kirlia cant evolve into gallade

That and the eevee event is SPECIFICALLY for eevee, there is no word on its evolutions getting anything

They wouldn't retcon old moves, because given the anger about the zapdos event and snorlax's breakthrough in general, that would invite a huge number of people to start getting mad about them breaking their moves about rules, the whole point of people's anger was a pokemon getting outclassed by a better version of itself when it has no alternative use. Keeping in mind that if they gave gardevoir a better psychic move, theres still mewtwo, and the lake trio, they'd either need to really overpower gardevoir, or make those legendaries, which legendaries are in most all instances, the supreme attackers of the type, really freaking weak

Its just that a ralts event doesnt seem plausable, as the only way it could happen is if they REALLY bent or outright broke their own rules, which given the thin ice a lot of players have with niantic, I dont think they'd want to risk

Newsflash but every CD is called the base form's community day. Not the evolved form's community day. They could very well do Ralts CD with both evolutions available and give an irrelevant exclusive move to Ralts like they're doing with Eevee.

Your argument about the anger of new movesets isn't an argument against Ralts CD, it's an argument against CD exclusive moves in general. And frankly while I think it's a horrible direction to take the game, I fear that their financial numbers show huge profit from the 3h events, which means more will come.

You know full well that legendaries and CD mons aren't a good comparison. One is severely limited by candy, one isn't. And it doesn't make sense to talk of the lake trio when only Azelf has any chance of being relevant.

I think a Ralts event seems very plausible, simply because it would get people out and playing. Larvitar day would still have brought massive activity even without Tyranitar getting a new meta relevant move because it's a desirable and rare pokemon. Your point about Kirlia raids is true, but it doesn't nullify the demand for easy Ralts candy. A CD nets you something like 600 to 1800 candy just for the catches in 3 hours. That's the equivalent of doing 60 to 180 Kirlia raids, months of free passes.

Given the three regi's role in regigigas, they may implement soemthing like needing all three to battle it (thats why I think all three have rock smash/focus blast). Regirock's also a good pokemon, it's bulky, and unlike golem isnt double weak to Gyarados people add in gyms to hincher machamp, and though Tyrantiar does also take less damage, Regirock is more potion friendly, freeing up bag space for more useful items if you dont spend coins on bag space

That and it is still a tier 5, the rewards are better than raiding something like a machamp or even a tyranitar, though that is strictly in terms of Raid rewards, if you're going for quality of pokemon, tyranitar is the one to shoot for, rock isnt too good in gen IV, but Dark will be in high demand

Plus it'll be good trading fodder for players that didnt get one
