Things that make you go "Hmmm...?"

Anyone else run into situations like that in which other players do things that don't make any sense to you at all? I don't mean "That player is stupid." or "That player is playing wrong." I mean things that you go "I... don't understand why you did what you did. At all."

So here's the scenario - I've had a Pokémon stuck on a gym for 5 days - not a huge deal, more of an annoyance than anything else. And yay! Today someone knocked it off and it came back! (Too bad I'd already collected my coins for the day, so it came back with 0 Coins. Ah well, that's the Gym meta for ya)

But it's a gym I can see from my work... and I'm the only one who got taken off the gym. There's one new Pokémon on the Gym with full motivation and everyone else on the gym is at "0" motivation. What makes this a "Hmmm...?" moment was that I was the last one to be on the gym, not the first.

So someone had to feed every Pokémon but mine enough berries to ensure they weren't knocked off the gym, go through all the trouble of beating every Pokémon to get to mine, then knock mine off and out of the gym - and put their own on.

It wasn't like they wanted to remove my Pokémon to follow some obvious pattern (like a Shiny gym, or an Eevee gym, or the like). And if it was to make the gym harder to take down by replacing an Alolan Muk with a Milotic, okay - but why leave every other Pokémon at 0 Motivation? Any trainer with a Machamp or Hariyama can take down this gym without breaking much of a sweat. The only other reason I can see for taking off a single Pokémon is to replace it with a Pokémon that might give you a better Candy - but then, if you're just putting a single Pokémon on to do that, why put so much effort into making sure that the LAST Pokémon put on the gym is the one that gets shaved off?

At first I thought that maybe someone was targeting me personally, but in this part of town no one raids when I'm at work, so I don't know any of the Trainers in the area. Then I thought maybe these players had decided to "claim" this gym for themselves and wanted to kick me off because I'm not part of that group. Which is about the only thing that comes anywhere near making sense of this situation.

It's such a weird little situation that I ain't even mad - I'm just curious and confused. Anyone else run into situations like that, where they you just can't figure out what's going on in the head of another player?

Doing better than me, left house at 345am this morning...knocked 5 gyms down at a lighted EX park. 445am all 5 of my Blisseys are back in my health clinic.

Been there. Took out a gym in a low-profile area on my lunch break once that hadn't been touched in a few days. Within the next 2 hours my Pokemon is sent back to me.

Same thing happens every time, I’m still not double placing though. Dumb for me to do more than 2 or 3 real Golden razz when it is 415am here while it is noon or later in that living room.

Well that certainly activates the almonds.

I don't have a situation profoundly as bizarre as that. Are gym roster fought in order of least amount of time defended to most? If so then maybe they knocked you out since you had been there the longest? But after 5 days that's an incredibly moot point so who knows.

My most bizarre situation involves gym defense too. In the Discord for my parent's hometown there's a channel for gym kick requests should you need/want something sent back to you. I put in a kick request for something in a low-turnover gym. Everything was +2 days except my Metagross, which itself sat at +8 hours meaning everything was due for its 50 coins. From what I can tell kick requests always were met before midnight the day they were posted (unless someone asked at like 11:30PM or something).

A day passed and nothing had happened - if anything someone had fed the gym at some point, but not GRB fed since motivations were still below half. So I put in another kick request, thinking it got glossed over. A few hours later someone responded saying the channel wasn't meant for showing off (I had included a screencap of the gym and my Pokemon specifically), which given the purpose of the channel clearly wasn't my intention.

The kick request wasn't met until almost another day and a half. Did I piss someone off on accident for having something they may not have had? Discord gossip sucks and I'm glad I'm not nearly as reliant on Discord anymore.

Never experienced that. For me the daily head-scratcher is when I do raids and people insist in using the wrong Pokemon.

Did a Regice raid not long ago and we were 6 players, which should be enough to beat it. But despite me pointing out that Ho-oh isn't great against Regice people still used it because it lasts longer. Naturally we failed that raid and when I suggested we try again with different Pokemon they said they didn't have time and left.

Yesterday we were 15-16 people taking on Regice. I didn't even bother suggesting Pokemon this time and found myself surrounded by Lugia, Gyarados and even a Cloyster. A couple used Dragonite.
Throughout the raid I saw perhaps three good choices, though since we don't see every player in the raid there might have been a few more.
We managed to beat it, but it took, I think, more than half the time to do it. With 15 players you really should defeat Regice way faster.

I know that every player can't be experts, but the thing is, neither am I.
But I do have the common sense to have a quick check on the internet to see what Pokemon might be best against raid bosses.
Not only does that help me prepare atleast two strong teams against the raid boss I will face, but it also helps me learn a thing or two about this game.

Ho-Oh has impeccable TDO against non-Blizzard variants, but that's the last thing you want in your lineup when you're short-manned like that. I've faced similar issues against a Lugia 8-man back in March; The battle starts and my Raikou finds itself surrounded by Skarmory, Cloyster, Shiftry... Needless to say we didn't win. That's also when I learned personal trainer levels don't mean shit without proper counters to back them up.

How close did you come in the 6 man out of curiosity? My very first Regice was a 6 man that we beat within the last 10 seconds.

I've wasted multiple passes because of 6 mans with multiple people using multiple Aggron. Yes, Regice is weak to Stone Edge, but.

I don't even use them on the re-entry unless the boss's health is in the red and it's an obvious win. Dropping max revives is so much more advantageous, I believe it to be partially how I won a Latias 4 man.

I did a bunch of 5 man and one 4 man Regice on Tuesday, the four man was tough, my app bugged out within the last sliver of health and we failed, then a fifth showed up and we beat it with a few seconds to spare

Totally agree about Ho-oh. I think I even have it in one of my Regice teams to use when we are enough people to take it down.

With 6 people we were fairly close to beat it. It was in the red anyway and one more player would have been enough.

We have this subject over and over again...I gave up and accept the fact that u cant expect people who play for 2 years hours a day to know the basics.

Today, 9 man Regice and I got 3 damage balls. Not sure how to feel about that one...

And this is my biggest problem with the current level system. You can achieve level 40 withoug knowing shit about the game or have any kind of counters for whatever. The other day we were with a small group, so before wasting a raid pass, I asked if I could see the other people's pokemon, to see if we even had a chance. The only other level 40 showed me their pokemon. Only three pokemon above 3000 cp. A level 35 tyra with iron tail fire blast, a level 30 dragonite in a gym, and a level 30 dragonite with steel wing draco meteor. How can you be level 40, but never power anything up or give anything the right moveset? This guy has 3.5 million stardust, but nothing powered up? What's the point of that? If they ever introduce higher levels, there should be additional demands for reaching them. You should complete certain battle challenges like solo some level 3 raids, which can only be done if your pokemon are even remotely decent. Otherwise we will soon see level 41 players who are unable to solo a machamp...

Finding a smaller, focused raid group has lessened this issue severely for me, but this is the main reason I quit asking people what level they were. If your Pokemon are level 20 at best then it makes no difference if your trainer level is 20 or 40.

The raids always get me. It's one thing to use the suggested pokemon, but some decisions make me scratch my head. This lady was having trouble soloing an Aerodactyl, so I decided to help her out. She was leading with Flareon...

There's still some logic to using Regice against itself. C/FB.

Sure, DPS is shit, but a lot of people still do not have multiple Machamps.

That's... odd.
If it had happened over night or something, and just been like that when you got back, that isn't weird - if the other mons were "better" someone could have fed those, but not yours, leading to yours ending up more-demotivated, and being the first to get knocked out. I certainly don't feed pokemon I don't think are fit to defend with...

In the part of the suburb I live in Instinct completely dominates the gyms but they only stay here, if I go 2 miles into the city or the east part of the suburb they’re nowhere to be found. I’ve taken gyms and within moments they take it back even with me berrying, and they’re often nowhere in sight. As soon as I attack they berry their Pokémon.

It's possible that the other five mons belong to a group of players trying to get gold badge, and they defended their mons when someone was attacking.

Or there's someone who has a grudge against you.

Can't think of any other reason why you'd be targeted instead.

Sounds like he knew (and was known by) the other 5 gym holders. I would have knocked him out after 8hrs and put a 10CP mon in. Draw them out.

Someone who keeps arguing that Machamp is not that useful (compared to Aggron) and neither is Blissey.
