If right after this they had gen IV start, basically to get all the candy for our other pokemon, hatch all the eggs, then we get something for all the gen IV mon.
What d you think the first wave/start of gen IV will have? its the smallest regional dex, and I believer something like 26 of them were cross gen evolutions, so I think that's make u the first bulk of the releases

On the contrary I think it would be a bit boring if the first wave was only the cross gen evos, unless the second wave came pretty fast after it. There's not much content in sitting there evolving mons you already had candy for.

Something I'd really like to see is them reintroducing evo items to the game and also making us earn them some other way than just spinning a lot of stops. Research would be a good option for example.

That's a great idea. I wouldn't mind if they nerfed Great Razz bundles from raids either and made room for a single evo item bundle. They could even make it a rare item from opened gifts.

Just in case you (or others reading this) don't know; you can already get the current evo items from gifts.

I agree with both suggestions though: getting them through research, raids and gifts will actually reward you playing the game rather than just RNG from endless pokestops.

Interesting! I've never gotten anything other than balls, heals, and eggs from gifts.

Please no, I already chuck the evo items from 7 day spin steaks as is. I'd rather keep the GRB bundles as I actively use those. I don't need to start getting anywhere from 1-3 Metal Coats from raids depending on RNG.

I'm still under the opinion that Gen 4 is too small to roll out in waves like they did with Gen 3, especially after factoring in the amount of cross-gen evos and legendary/mythical Pokemon. That said I'm sure they'll divide it up somehow to drag out fresh content as long as possible.

Gen IV is small, it's I believe the third smallest (beaten only by gen 6 and 7) but it wouldn't be too out of character for ninantic to drag it out. theres only like 60 something nonlegendary, noncross gen pokemon in the dex, so maybe 2 waves could be possible if the stretch it, but seems unlikely

It’s not the number of Pokémon persay but the number of Wild Pokémon and non-cross generational mons. Gen 4 has way more cross-generational mons, mons that we won’t see in the wild.
