Preparing for my first-ever Ex-Raid!

Note: All attackers are level 30 unless stated otherwise. IV order is A/D/S.

Of course, I will come early and ask the other raiders whether they are splitting into private groups.

My team is likely to include two Tyranitars with Bi/Cr (13/15/13 and 12/15/15), a Houndoom with Sn/FP (15/13/11) and a Scizor with FC/XS (12/12/15).

If the Mewtwo has Confusion, my Gengar with Hx/Sh (14/14/10) may not last long enough to fire off a charged move. I absolutely love Gyarados and wonder whether mine with Bi/Cr (14/13/12) would be good enough. There is also elite generalist Dragonite with DT/OR (14/13/13).

Perhaps I could power up a level 15 Pinsir with BB/XS (14/15/11) as Psychic appears to be among the most common types for legendaries. Other options include FTMing a Tyranitar with SD/Cr or CTMing (then powering up from level 15) an Absol with Sn/Th (14/15/10 or 13/15/11). I do not have a Salamence, Rayquaza or Mewtwo/Alakazam with Co/Sh.

How can I use the autoselect to determine which charged move Mewtwo has? Based on the above list, what team should I use for each charged move?

Any advice on actually catching Mewtwo (assuming the raid is won)? I searched YouTube, but the first video showed someone using Nanabs (obviously a bad idea and I will stick with GRBs). Its attack animation looks quite short. Should I throw as soon as I see the attack animation start, if the circle size is already good? I can easily hit non-curved greats, but am not consistent enough at excellents (except for Slowpoke/Wailmer) and/or curveballs.

What CP thresholds should I look out for? Wind is rare in Singapore I know 2275 = perfect.

P.S. If I do catch it, I will stop asking "What is a Mewtwo?" All the best to everyone else still seeking their first black pass!

No need to worry about Mewtwo counters for ex raids in Singapore.

If M2 has FB, autoselect wont pick your TTars and Houndoom- Lugias, Gengars and Dragons instead . If he has Psychic it will pick TTars and Houndoom, maybe Scizor. For Shadow Ball should be similiar like for Psychic( no scizor now). For Hyper Beam to be honest i expect also Ttars and Gengars and maybe Scizor because resistance. However i did 10 Ex raids and never met HB Mewtwo. Mainly FB, Psychic and once Shadow Ball. But you wont know which fast attack he have, so Gengars are risky

For catching, i throwing very average, but he is easy to catch with excellent Curves, so try to hit at least with great curves. He has more catch rate than Ttar, but once i caught him with my last ball( glad, to have only blue team with gym controlling) 13th ball.

Do not power anything up for this raid unless only like 4 people show up. I would personally create 2 teams for quick rejoining if needed. Don't worry about movesets of Mewtwo, unless you do have one of those real small groups. Just lead with DPS.
Team 1
Gengar
Tyranitar
Tyranitar
Houndoom
Scizor
Gyarados

Team 2
Dragonite(s)
Kyrogre
Bulky options like Umbreon and Snorlax

Don't over-think it.

To catch Mewtwo, just use golden razzberry and stay calm. Watch him for minute to get his movements down and just try for great curve balls. Good luck!

Wow, I completely forgot that I have a L29 87% Umbreon collecting dust in my storage. I will follow your suggested A-team and put my two Dragonites, SD/Cr Tyranitar, Umbreon, Snorlax and Kyogre in my B-team.

Is Psychic a common type for legendaries in future generations? If so, that would a more compelling reason to power up Pinsir (and Absol, once I get a better one).

For catching us a pinap. I have always caught Mewtwo on first throw curve ball great shot using Pinap he is easy to catch and not that far away.

If you don't see ttars in the autoselect it is FB. If you see ttars and gengar, it is HB. Psychic and SB are harder to distinguish, for SB I will see only dark Mons, while psychic also get aggron, but it depends on your Mons.
The attack animation time is short, but the actual time is the same, the best thing is to test it yourself before the first ball, hold on the ball and see when the circle disappear and reappear with respect to the animation. I aim to release the ball at the end of his animation, and not at the beginning.
Mewtwo distance and circle size is not very different than machamp, so if you can hit him you will be fine. Try to aim for a large curve great if you are not sure, a curve without any bonus is almost the same as a straight great ball.

Good luck.

Use your Gyarados, it works well with that moveset.
Like its been said already, if your Tyranitars arent selected then you are fighting a Focus Blast Mewtwo.
How can you not be good at curved balls yet? Perhaps your phone sucks? Mewtwo is close and its easy to hit great-excellent, you might miss the first ball but you'll get it on the next. Hitting great is good enough with GRBs.
DO NOT FTM that tyranitar. Just use it as is if you dont want to use Gengar.
Although I will miss the "What is a Mewtwo?" comments, I wish you the best of lucks (I was lucky enough to get a 15 attack 89% Mewtwo on my first try).

Phone sucks and left-handed, so curveballs are doable but consistency is lacking (risk completely missing).

As for the "What is a Mewtwo?" comments, you can hope (and I also hope) that someone takes over.

I googled "how to throw a curve ball." In the video, he uses his thumb. I ALWAYS use my index finger. If you are right handed, spin the ball at the lower right of your screen, and release it towards the left side of the screen. reverse that if you are left handed. There isn't a reason you shouldn't be able to get great curveballs.

Don’t overdo it. 2 Ttars B/C is probably all you need. Make a color-raid and learn to do great curve-balls. I’m 2/2 on Mewtwo with three invites I missed, never threw more than three balls before catching. Make sure you use GR, forget Pinap, it isn’t worth it.

My advice is, get early before the egg hatch, see how many people come to the EX Raid
Dont power up anything before you know for sure how many people gonna battle it, but know what pokemon to power up and what level it needed to be to save time
Check the lobby first is a good idea to now how many people been there already.
If there are only few people for raid you can power up your counter

Having said that i already power up my anti mewtwo squad because i trio it in my 2nd mewtwo
It help in my third mewtwo as surprisingly there are only 4 valor that show up.
Two level 40 with good counter ( Gengar, Mewtwo and all Tyra Squad depending on the moveset), one level 32 or 33 with surprisingly good counter at his level, one level 37 but all he has is 6 tyranitar at level 20
We decided to do it with 4 anyway.
My best mewtwo so far, 93 with 15-12-15. Its perfect for me..

Just got back from a Mewtwo raid. It had focus blast. We had 7 people. I used my normal Mewtwo team (Gengar, T-tar, T-tar, Mewtwo, Scizor, Umbreon.) My team lasted, Umbreon barely took a hit. Got 7 balls, caught it on the 4th.
