Where would legendaries fit on the defender tier list? (Hypothetical Question)

I'd say Ho-Oh would be tier 2, as Steel Wing and Solar Beam hit the common counter types Rock and Water pretty hard. Another question, why does Niantic not let us put legendaries or mythical in gyms? It wouldn't be gamebreaking, as none fare against the almighty BlissLax/ChansKing.

nobody knows. Defending 6 vs 6 is just stupid in general. They should go back to the 10 slots, keep the only one of each pokémon rule and make it 2-3 turns to throw them out (to shorten the time compared to the old system)

With the system now I put in my last catch to "defend" and many others do the same.

Why would you need to shorten the time compared to the old system? Gyms going down too fast is one of the most commonly cited flaws of the current system.

I think they are saying shorten the time of the old system. Taking down a 10 pokemon tower could be quite a task.

Most gyms back then took me 45 minutes to take and I was only just above level 30 with bad pokemon. It would be 30 minutes with the mons I have now, do we really need to make that faster?

with the old system you needed one hour for a Lvl. 10 gym. Which is about 50% battery of a phone...
For almost nothing in return. Thats why nobody did it and they changed the gyms in the first place.

Yeah 55 battles to do it. Why bother?

I don't understand all the complaints about the new system. Even with the Normal types and GRB, it's more fun and more competitive. Also more strategy in what goes in beyond Blissey.

in this point I disagree. There is zero strategie...Even a terrible trainer wins 6 vs 6 So it doesnt matter at all what u put in the gym. The only thing kind a funny is to snipe/ GRB-defend it before the raid starts.

6 vs. 10 would be more fun and wouldnt need much more time than now.

Taking down an aggressively GRB-fed gym can take more than two hours.

I miss prestiging.

Nobody? Plenty of people did it, I know because I was one of them. Unlike the current system, there was some challenge to making it all the way through the gym for optimal efficiency and there was a definite sense of accomplishment when you got to the end, something that's sorely lacking in the current gym system.

I think he means that you face all 10 Pokemon 2 or 3 times, then they all go at once, rather than incremental deconstruction.
In any case, a level 25 player with proper counters could clear a gym of any 6 level 40 legendaries, even with a 6v6 all-clear requirement.
To answer the question, no legendary would be as good as Blissey at defense, though most would fall between tiers 2 and 4.

I actually battled a defending Mewtwo in a gym tonight. Somebody had placed a ~L25 Ditto, and it transformed into the Mewtwo I used to attack it with. One shadow ball KO'd the Ditto/Mewtwo pretty quickly, but it was kind of fun. Not often do I get to see Mewtwo knocked out in a regular gym battle.

Ditto only coppies def and attack stats and uses only it's own hp. So don't get surprised if it dies to 1 charged move.

Of all the current legendaries, Lugia would probably be the best of the bunch as a gym defender (especially when placed in between a Blissey and a Snorlax, forcing Machamp to swap out). It's massive bulk would result in prolonged battles, both of it's quick moves would perform well, and it would fire off sky attack frequently (which would probably be it's best charge move for defense). Plus, it would be one of the only tank defenders that isn't weak to fighting. Personally, I'd say Lugia would easily rate as a tier 1 defender.

They may aswell allow Legendaries in gyms if they're gonna leave em as they are presently. They will demotivate along with everything else. I'm hoping for a complete revamp tho, gyms should have a certain degree of challenge to them but without it being too time consuming like the old system was. Not sure how they'd go about achieving this balance tho but we can all agree the present system is shit. Coins & coins only keep us going back for more but it's a chore rather than something that should be enjoyed.

I think they should have the 10 slots like the old system, 1 of each type. Maybe slot the pokemon by level rather than cp, followed by time of placement?
I think they could also use the motivation system, but slower and a set amount for all pokemon. Get rid of remote feeding and nerf berries, or get rid of them all together, so after a few days the pokemon in the towers get demotivated and are easier to take down, so you don't have towers that are quite as intimidating and actually flip.
And give us a stardust reward for something involving gyms...

I like the idea!

But I had to think about how that system would get abused...

If gyms get too hard to take down initially, groups of multi-accounters would probably try to abuse the system be taking down and rebuilding the gym every few days.

Very hard to make a system that both satisfies organised groups of high-level players and not totally excludes "lone wolfs" and more casual players.

Lugia would be great, easily better than Snorlax and Slaking and might even be better than Chansey. It would completely wall Machamp and has great bulk to not go down too fast even against an optimal attacker. Best charge move would be either Sky Attack for spamming more often or Hydro Pump to threaten Tyranitars.

Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon would all be good. Good bulk and they hit back like trucks. All likely better than Slaking, maybe as good as Snorlax. Latias and the Regis would be quite decent as well.

The easiest solution is just to allow Legendary to all count as 1 pokemon.

So every gym could have 1 legendary in it max.

It could be like the gym topper. They have to do something because I'm sure they are seeing their raid pass sales drop with the completely worth raid bosses, like the current one.
