Do you think they will add to the friend feature?

How are you guys liking the friend feature? I was pumped when it first came out, but I have already grown tired of it. I just think it is real limited. I understand why they did it, only being able to trade with people in close quarters, but it doesn't allow me to do the thing I care about most...getting some regional exclusives. There isn't anything to really do with long distance friends. It would be cool to send messages or certain items, like a TM. I feel like Niantic will really be missing out if they don't add more features.

Yeah, I think they messed up with allowing 200 friends. Who the hell wants to juggle that many people? I would have preferred, say, 20 local friends and 3 international friends that can be traded with, even if there's an international stardust penalty

I'm glad the system is there though. I'm more interested in how they can use it to improve raid organization and simple communication. The potential is there if Niantic is wise enough to use it

I just mean the limitation would maybe ease the server a little and make it run better. Then have a very limited number of long distance friends that you can trade with.

That's more about phones then servers. But yea no one is forcing you to have more then 20 friends.

I think they will eventually add to but it so buggy right now and needs to be fixed. Some of my friends have higher or lower friendship levels than I do with them and we are not getting credit for all of our interactions.

I'm still excited for it, but they need to fix some serious issues:

- The friendship levels being out of sync between two players.
- The limitation of opening only 20 gifts per day.
- The lack of any kind of sorting or filtering in the friends list.

After these issues are addressed, they could then start to add more features. For example, I, too, would like to be able to make our own 'gift bags' for friends from our items.

What is wrong with a cap of 20 gifts per day? Nothing in my opinion. Unlimited would be more broken.

I mostly agree, however, it is tough to trust what Niantic counts as a day of friendship. I have 18 friends, so no chance I open more than 20. However, if someone was currently raiding a lot and adding more and more friends---do you trust that raiding or battling a gym with someone registers or do you double down and open their gifts, too?

Where I see your point most, I perceive that gifts are dropping less from pokestops since the gift item nerf...limiting gift opening helps to equalize: some places have hundreds and hundreds of clustered pokestops, while some villages only have 5 or 6

Perhaps the novelty and frequency of gifts will die down. But I can never keep up. It’s stupid to allow 200 friends but allow you to open gifts from only 20 of them each day. I have 22 waiting to be opened now.

More to your point (thru hearsay) I'm under the impression if you remove a friend from your list, then their code can't be re-entered. Maybe one of those 22 unopened tokens of friendship prompts some to remove you when it isn't something you intended. Which is compounded by the inconsistent counting Niantic has been doing in regards to getting from good to great friend status

You can re-add a previously removed friend with no loss in level (assuming Niantic let you build any to begin with). But yeah...I could see it as causing some hard feelings in some situations.

I did a trade with a great friend that got the 10k XP. and visual cue, however, the other player needed 4 more days of being a good friend. The trade was identical to two good friends trading.

FYI, if you see great friend on your side don't assume the trade parameters will be improved unless it is seen on BOTH sides.
