Using dex-fillers to solo T3s

For fun I've been putting not-so-great Pokemon in my T3 teams

Exploud and Zangoose in my Gengar team
Grumpig and Swellow against Machamp
Masquerain and Parasect (or anything) against Sharpedo

Have you experimented with any other non-guide Pokemon for T3s?

The crucial question: Are those solo attempts successful?

Yes! Obviously the rest of the team has to be good enough to pick up the slack but yes.

5 mewtwos & a grumpig, would definitely work, lol ;). I experimented with Breloom when it was on, Sharpedo a definite candidate tho I generally go with my preset teams to save time but kudos for trying sumat different 👍

After dozens and dozens of Machamp raids using the usual Zam, Zam, Espy, M2, Gard, Lugia team, it's getting a little stale ya know?

Never ever for T3s, lol

Why take chances?

For T1s and 2s, definitely.

What are you risking? 5 minutes of your time and a few revives?
I risk it because most tier 3s are boring otherwise. I miss the thrill of first soloing them with a bad phone and teams that could barely make it.

Yeah, my time.

There's also some residual bad memories from trying to solo Alakazam and Machamp, failing to do so, and wasting my raid pass as a result.

Well, it comes down to what you prioritize. When I go for a challenge solo I mentally commit half an hour to it knowing I might not succeed at first but it's a worthy exchange to me because it may actually make the raid fun. If I'm in a hurry obviously I'll go in with a team that demolishes the boss, preferably without dodging required, but it's dreadfully boring, just like big group raids.

I do unique challenge without legendary on T3, so i play around with some dex fillers

Some that i remember using it

Slowbro, Clefable, Dodrio, Crobat for Machamp

Sandslash for Gengar

Minun for Omastar

Vileplume, Victrebell (those 2 actually good against Vapo but few trainer try it), Roselia for Vaporeon

Scyther for Starmie

Same here, really love being able to use a lot of different mons. Some that I've used:

Granbull, Wigglytuff, Donphan, Slaking, Ursaring against Machamp (part of fairy charge move only challenge heavily carried by 1 Gardevoir). Also Mr. Mime and Crobat against Machamp some other time.

Scyther, Crobat, Fearow, Dodrio, Xatu against Breloom.

Manectric, Swampert, Feraligatr, Magneton against Aerodactyl.

Meganium, Cacturne, Sunflora, Ludicolo, Bellossom, Shiftry, Vileplume against Omastar/Kabutops/Starmie.

Sudowoodo, Arcanine, Armaldo against Scyther.

Nice ! Now i remember using grandbull against machamp

Would like to add Pinsir and Bannete against Alakazam too, but i guess they are not dex filler but good counter for unique challenge vs Alakazam..

I am not doing T3 much though nowadays, i am making a 2nd acc (yeah against TOS but i need more challenge to play) just to duo T4

Yeah, I didn't list Banette and Pinsir either because they're pretty well established as viable Alakazam counters.

I have to say I can't judge you for making a second account for that purpose, the game is lacking challenges. I hope they bring back Alakazam and the Hitmons and introduce some hard tier 3s with gen 4 as well.

Love this, it's one of the things I'm trying to do to keep things fresh with this game. It's why I'm spending (or wasting) stardust on fringe pokemon just to have a variety of attackers. I want to get as close as i can to high level (35+) unique teams of 6 of the same type.

That's kinda what made me start doing it. I find all these lvl 35 weather boosted catches like Zangoose or Swellow with good movesets and try to find uses for them instead of transferring them to the professor

Yep, and I'm hoping they expand the battle party feature/sorting so that we can have more categories so I can easily have them organized

If you try any unique 36/42/60 etc you invariably end up using some end of the rotation mons. I've soloed scyther using only sudowoodo and only graveler. I've even tried doing theme challenges, using 6 unique of a specific type to defeat a boss.

My scyther team for instance was: golem, sudowoodo, graveler, magcargo, geodude, and nosepass.

Unique azumaril team was a who's who of WHAT?!?!:
Lv 35 PJ/PB Roselia
Lv 35 RL/LB Bellossom
Lv 33 PJ/SLB Beedrill
Lv 35 CB/WC Manectric
Lv 30 S/WC Raichu
Lv 30 AS/SLB Crobat

Sharpedo: all blissey team, all tauros team, etc

really you are mostly limited by your imagination.

I've defeated both Machamp (with weather boost) and Breloom (no boost) using just fearow.

Another time vs Breloom:
Lv 32 AS/SA Skarmory
Lv 34 P/SA Fearow
Lv 35 AS/AA Pidgeot
Lv 32 AS/AA Xatu
Lv 35 WA/AA Swellow
Lv 29 P/DP Murkrow

Other notables:
Gengar: haunter, snorlax
Machamp: slowbro, Kadabra, pidgeot
Porygon: primape, tentacruel,
Scyther: Rapidash, ninetails
Piloswine: ursaring, donphan, machoke
