Uses for SD Tyranitar

So I had a very good Community Day and am quite content with the crop of SD/SE Ttars I ended up with. However, I've been thinking about how it will fare against future raid bosses and I'm struggling to come with a use for them in the near-term. The only bosses that are coming soon within the current generation that are weak to Rock are Regice and Rayquaza. Rayquaza is better handled by Dragon and Ice types and Regice has a movepool that disfavors Ttar relative to Moltres and Machamp. What foreseeable uses will a Rock squad have in the future?

Do not think, just spent dust and make Tyranitars great as they never been before!

YEah but they're completely freakign pointless right now, why is it whn someone brings up a legitimate concern that goes against popular opinion no one takes it seriously?

SD tyranitar is actually useless right now on the raid scene, and wont be for a while, tht doesn't mean get rid of them, just shelf them in favor of other better pokemon

Just max em out

No use if looking at legendary raids.

It's like: In the past everyone went "Imagine a double rock Ttar, it would be so much better than Golem" and I went "That's never going to happen, it would make Ttar the best in of two types and make Raids too easy."

And now it actually happened and there is no use for it anymore. And I go " It's so sad that it has no use." And people go :" I will max 6 Ttar anyway because it is the best Rock attacker." No meta use. But the best.

I love this, I love how people freaked way the heck out over something that is acutally useless for the time being, until gen V, it wil be worthless to power up tyranitar unless Rayquaza returns, and even THEN, if alolan ninetales it released, it will outclass tyranitar

Gen 1 birds getting a rerun with their shiny forms would make SD Tyranitar a premium attacker for a while. Other than that, there aren't going to be any legendary targets until gen 5 at least, so they might be amazing for the occasional tier 3 or 4 raid but that's probably it.

For me, one of the few pokemon I never maxed out Golem. I was happy with my evolved ones. Tho its use is probably limited going forward, I see no reason not to max out your best one and/or shiny. I am maxing out the one high level one with high IVs. I also have a good shiny at level 20, but I don't plan on maxing him at this time.

Pokebattler has double rock Tyranitar as the 4th best counter to blizzard kyogre in partly cloudy weather, so that's something.

That actually is soemthing, blizzard kyogre's one of the most devastating opponents for kyogre's counters, so that is significant

Rayquaza is better handled by Dragon types...that are also weak to it?

Yes. DT/O Rayquaza hurts your Dragons but the amount of damage they deal is well worth the tradeoff. There's really nothing that survives well against a Rayquaza Outrage except Aggron (meh) and Gardevoir (better but still meh).

I don’t understand people’s struggle with it not being meta relevant as the meta is constantly changing. Even if it gets outclassed, it will still be your almost perfect Rock attacker and that base will be covered. It’s not too common (assuming you live in a big/active city) that you show up for a tier 5 raid and it comes down to you not having the perfect team. Where it really matters is soloing/duoing and that’s for tier 3/4 raids and those are changing even based on events. You don’t think there will be raid bosses in the future that will require rock attackers? Even if it’s just for tier 3, that still yields the better rewards and is important to be able to solo.

I do live in a big city and having the perfect team doesn't generally matter. I generally get better rewards out of raiding legendaries than soloing T3s and the chance of a high-IV legendary is better than any of the T3 options (aside from Machamp, arguably, although high-level Machops aren't that uncommon and I don't really need more of them personally). I'm not concerned about it being outclassed, for the same reason that Rayquaza coming didn't stop me from investing dust in Dragonites - it's still a very good attacker and near the top of its niche with much higher accessibility (courtesy of Dratini day).

I could go on a rant about how the battling is stale and the 'meta' is a joke but I won't. I was just wondering if there were foreseeable uses for Rock attackers in anticipated raids and it doesn't seem like there are, aside from T3 solos that I probably won't do because it's a waste of a raid pass when I could just walk to a different gym to do a T5. Even if it's not going to make or break me in terms of raid success, doing more damage nets more balls which yields better rewards and a higher probability of capturing a raid boss, so I do want to be investing in top counters if I can afford it.

Every trainer has different goals and battle preferences. If you feel uncomfortable to power up your Ttars, just save dusts for now until Entei and Bird raids come back.
