Speed should affect move CD not Attack/Defense

One of the most common complaints is that battling feels really repetitive in the game. This is partially because the only distinction in how a Pokemon fights is its moveset. It doesn't matter if you are using C/DP on Hariyama, Breloom, or Machamp, you're attacking at the same rate, with the same feel. Yes, there are some animation differences, but that's the only difference.

Currently, speed affects the game by being a percentage modifier on the Attack and Defense stats. 75 speed is considered "average" and does not modify Atk/Def, and every 25 speed in either direction changes the stats around 5%. Jolteon, one of the fastest Gen 1 pokemon, has a (PoGo) attack of 209 before the speed modifier. Its base speed in the main games is 130, so it gets an 11% buff to its attack, making it 232.

However, when you play as Jolteon and you are using a move like Volt Switch, it does not feel like you are playing one of the fastest Gen 1 Pokemon. It feels like you are attacking with this move that feels the same no matter who you use it on, despite the fact that Ampharos, another Volt Switch user, has a main-game speed of 55.

Because of this, I think that the speed modifier should not affect a user's Attack or Defense, but instead the cooldown of their moves. This way, relative damage dealt is not affected by much (this is a post-IV damage modification, as opposed to the current speed-modifier which is pre-IV modification, meaning it will be slightly more powerful of a modifier), but the feeling you get playing one pokemon to the next is altered quite significantly, even with the same moveset. Jolteon's Volt Switch will come out .25 seconds faster than Ampharos's, but each will deal the same amount of damage, which is a much closer relationship to their main-game stats and performance.

What do you think?

Good idea, great post. It's definitely fair to say that Niantic has mishandled 'speed' in PoGo, and individualizing movesets to an extent would add a welcome layer of complexity to gym and raid play.

Q: Would this lead to Mewtwo breaking the game?

A: Everything is just a matter of balancing. They would need to do some pretty extensive calculations to see how the cooldown modifier from the speed stat would affect the DPS of different pokemon and make sure nothing breaks. Mewtwo and Raikou would be especially dangerous and Alakazam, Jolteon, Sceptile, Espeon, Gengar and Latios would also have potential to become a lot better.

Yes, good post. It would require some rebalancing, and the values of certain pokemon would shift a bit relative to others.

Combat is kind of boring, and it would be nice to add more flavor and feel to it (as well as more strategy).

Frankly, I'm getting tired of the players who can raid with four accounts simultaneously, simply by tapping on the charged move button continuously - fires fast move until charged up, and then charged move, all with no dodging. We need more options besides fast, charged, and dodge. Make one account interesting to fight with, and require more attention to the battle, and more strategy.

I think they know this already but i m pretty sure this is pokemon company's decision. They want Pokémon go to be a game for braindead people for some reason.
