GamePress

Website mobile pop-up ads

A complaint or plea disguised as a question: can the gamepress website admins please, please do something about the "congratulations!" pop-up ads that try to hijack my phone's browser (iPhone, using Safari). This is the only website I regularly visit that permits these ads. If you weren't so darn helpful I would have given up a long time ago. As it is, I spend more and more time away each time it happens, and I can't be alone.

I know you need revenue to keep any site going, so I don't begrudge ads in general, but ads that drag visitors involuntarily away from your site and/or are security threats to your visitors shouldn't be tolerated.

If there's a way to report it to you when it happens, I'd be willing to do so.

Oh good, this wasn't just me. Android user here, when using the mobile site with Chrome I'd occasionally get these hijack ads as well. I couldn't even back out of them, the only way to clear them would be to close my browser and re-open. The strange thing is they would happen on specific pages, not just randomly. I don't know if ads are a problem on desktop because I always run ad blockers.

I've since switched browsers to Firefox Mobile with Ad-Block Plus and haven't had issues since. I find it ridiculous that whoever runs the site has the gall to ask us to whitelist them while they host incredibly intrusive, potentially harmful ads. For shame, GamePress.

This has sadly been going on for quite some time now, as there have been other posts on it dating back several months, and it shouldn't have been an issue for this long.

Yes, this is an on going problem which I presume hasn't been sorted due to money. It will be ok for a while then suddenly you're plagued with these pathetic, very annoying ads. The worst part is having to close everything down to get rid of this crap. I ask, why is something like this allowed to happen which makes you leave the site you were happily looking at? Surely they can't be paying that much for Gamepress to think that's ok? Sort it out guys, you're losing followers because of this!!!

The mobile version of this site is not usable for that reason. I just avoid the mobile site and use only the computer version. I get that they need to sell ads but on a computer the ads don't interfere with the functionality of the site.

Install a content blocker. I read a few reviews and tried out 1Blocker. The free version has been good enough for me. I've been considering the upgrade for $5 so I can whitelist sites with unobtrusive ads.

I feel a sliver of remorse about blocking ads, but they are interfering with my browsing and wasting my cellular data. GamePress is the site that finally pushed me to install an ad blocker. It is not too complicated and has improved my experience on a lot of other sites as well.

A practical suggestion that I'm familiar with. I would rather not have another layer of software running on my phone, just to view this single website peacefully. I especially don't want to end up spending my money to fix gamepress' mistakes.
