Catch a Dragon-type Pokemon?

I just got this task for 3 rare candy reward. It seems tough, but the reward is too good to throw away. How should I complete this task? Are there any low tier raid bosses with dragon type? Does evolving a Dratini work? If it doesn’t, should i hold on to the quest until Rayquaza comes back?

I completed this task yesterday catching a wild Bagon, admittedly pretty rare but other than that Dratini your best bet once this event is over

Honestly it is all about luck. I had this task for about a week and was getting worried I was never going to find one, than niantic debuted A Eggy and I got super lucky.

1) Evolving Dratini/hatching Dratini does not work. Must be a wild catch.

2) With Lati@s gone, it is a bit more of a challenge.

3) I recommend asking in your local chat/Discord/raid group to be notified if anyone sees a Dratini at a local stop.

4) I would definitely hold onto the quest as long as you can stand it. 3 rare candy for one catch is a pretty nice deal.

I wouldn't bother keeping the task, now that Latios season is over

The few times I've gotten the catch a dragon research were pretty lucky. Two of them were during the Lati rotation and one was just before A-Eggy dropped.

Three rare candies is too good to pass up imo. Like others suggested get in touch with local groups for leads on Dragon-type spawns.

It's also possible that between the end of the Water festival and GO Fest in Chicago (where many of us guess the Regis will debut), we'll have revisits from Groudon and Rayquaza, which would make catching a dragon not so hard. At least wait until then if you can before dumping that research task.

Update: I trashed the quest. Not worth keeping it for potentially months.
And I know I'm gonna see a wild Dratini tomorrow. /s

That's what happened to me when I ditched a "catch a ditto" quest. Next day it was my first catch

You can probably turn over 6 (or 10!) of the rare candy for raid research tasks before you find an elusive dragon type. I would focus on those.

I think he wasn't there when you posed this question, but if you get the quest now: don't ditch it!

The tier 2 raid Alolan Exeggcutor is pretty easy to solo. If you catch the Alolan tree afterwards, it will count as a dragon type!
