How can you tell a wild Pokemon's "Level"?

I've been looking at a catch chance calculator and it needs the wild pokemon's "Level". I don't see anything that could indicate some other stat. This range is 1-30 so it can't be cp, can someone please explain.

The arc above the pokemon gives you a rough estimate - all the way over to the left are very low level, and the right side shows the highest levels you can reach. But that isn't very accurate, and changes every time you level up.

Best way is to look at the stardust required to power it up. For example, if it requires 4500 dust, it's either level 27, 27.5, 28, or 28.5. At level 29, it needs 5000 dust, and at level 26.5, only 4000.

Beyond that, use a CP calculator, like the one here. It will give you some choices of level and IV, but you can narrow it down some by getting a trainer's evaluation.

Pokegenie takes a screenshot of the pokemon, and basically does what the calculator here does, calculate possibilities based on CP, HP, and dust to power up. Others look at the code directly to tell you the IVs as well as level, but they may be in violation of the TOS for the game.

Correct except the arc isn't a rough estimate, it's exact. It's just hard for a person to tell accurately what level the arc position stands for, but it can be done with practice. A computer can always tell, which is why calcyIV/pokegenie always know the level exactly, unlike GP's IV calculator that doesn't see the arc.

(Also I think that the server scanning IV apps don't work at the moment because they rely on the same api that map bots did. Using them is still a horrible idea because they ask for your pogo credentials.)

You’ll end up surprising yourself in a couple weeks. You get to notice what CP’s are good on what Pokémon. Soon you’ll b able to predict within 3 levels from just seeing a Pokémon’s CP alone!

To explain it starting from the basics, pokemon level is a semi-hidden stat, only directly visible from the arc above it, which is hard to estimate from. Big difference to the main series games where level is a very visible part of your pokemon.

It goes from 1 to 40 with intervals of 0.5 levels. Encounter pokemon are always level 15, raid bosses are always level 20 and hatches are level 20 or the trainer level, if it's below 20. Wild pokemon will range from 1 to trainer level, with a maximum of 30. Weatherboost changes this to trainer level+5.

Everything you encounter will always be at an even level, half levels are only possible as a result of powering up, for which the limit is trainer level+2.

Hope that explains some of the basics. You'll develop a sense for the levels as you play more.

You can tell by the stardust to power up. 5000 is level 29 or 30, 4000 level 25 or 26, and so on. Look at the power up costs on this site to get the rest of the values.
