Idea for Legendaries in Gyms and Nerf for Remote Feeding
What if Legendaries were allowed in Gyms?
The fear is that a gym might be too hard to take down against feeding. Bad enough to beat Blissey against berries but Blissey, Lugia, Regis, etc would be mind numbing.
But what if at the same time they partially nerfed remote feeding.
What if the 10 berry limit was kept, but Remote Feeding counted as feeding 2 berries.
This would effectively half Golden razz power of remote feeders, while not changing it if you are actively there and fighting to keep it
Normal Decay makes even legendaries non-threatening. And if Remote feeding was halved, even adding legendaries to gyms wouldn't make them harder to take over.

I think this idea would destroy the diversity we have in gyms. It already isn’t as diverse as most would like, given that blisslax and skakings that occupy half the spots on most gyms. Then you throw legendaries into the mix and that’s all you’ll end up seeing in gyms.
Yes, their higher CP’s translate to quicker demotivation, but the point of the gym system is to battle unique Pokémon perhaps not found in raids. I think it serves this niche well and with the quick gym turnover rate, lots of unique Pokémon have chances to be used in countering a gym Pokémon.
As for your idea of halving the current amount of feedable berries, I think it would have a net zero effect. I mean seriously, does anyone have the time to try to take down a gym when there’s a remote feeder constantly berrying the Pokémon? I know I don’t, some may though and this change would be welcomed by that population, but I just don’t see any point in it.
Not attacking your ideas, but rather criticizing their implications. I think there is a way this can be done right, but as for now, I think it’s best it stay where it is.
I think a better idea is to only allow 1 legendary per gym. This legendary will always be at the top of the gym and won't have motivation decay. However, it will not take berries, so basically you will just have to beat it 3 times.
This doesn't really make the gyms harder but serve the purpose of showing off our legendaries with their full CP.
Not a bad idea, but this creates the problem that the trainer who takes the gym cannot put his legendary first. It would be too easy to take down.
It would work well for high density places where you know you will be joined in minutes if not seconds by teammates, but not so well in other places where you might be left defending alone for hours.
I think one legendary per player per gym could work. As in, if you place a legendary in a gym, you can’t put any legendary in any other gym. And it can not be feed berries (because everyone would feed it only for candy) and it’s motivation doesn’t decrease. Only the first slot can have a legendary, which would be only the winner of the gym battle.
I wouldn’t mind that.
Bad idea. And completely unnecessary.
Gyms populated with high level mons that are all Razzed up are difficult to take down. I'm a couple weeks away from level 40. If I see a gym with normal mons who are all at max health it's a deterrent. Adding Legiendaries too the mix just makes an otherwise perfectly fair system skewed towards those who have a lot of legendaries.
Remote feeding is already fairly ineffective to begin with. Unless you use golden berries. And if someone wants to use golden razzbarries then that's fair. They can only be acquired in raids. And only in any decent quantity via Legendary raids.
The only argument I see for allowing legendaries gym spots is because people have so many of them and they feel they don't get to do much with them.
On the other hand, most legendaries aren't that rare relative to some of the rarer (and useful) non-legenadry mons.
Go back to the old gym system. Allow only 1 pokemon of each type (I'm cool with no legendaries.) Have motivation decay, but at a much slower rate. Keep the berries, but get rid of remote feeding. Allow demotivated pokemon to faint and go back to trainers. No more isolated towers of you do that.
Give me the opportunity to use my legendaries to take on a 10 pokemon gym of fully motivated pokemon. Golden razzberries ruin gym battling. I'm battling the berries, not the pokemon. However most the gyms around here are just a single pass through a bunch of demotivated pokemon...yawn. I just want a reason to need a maxed legendary. The raids around here are either no one, or 15-18 people. I either can't do level 4 and 5 raids, or I have so much help I can throw trash out. Let the downvotes fly
Life of a rural player, I guess. The issues I face are the exact opposite of yours.
I upvoted you, by the way. I know that you wouldn't be able to experience my wonderful issues with berry feeders hanging on to a gym despite having two other friends with me, or having some jerk enter the very last battle and stealing battle priority from me, or having another jerk shave me out of the gym I soloed after one hour.
I'm of the mindset that legendaries absolutely should be allowed in gyms. We already have the one-species limitation (which works just fine), and if needs be, there could always be a "one legendary per gym" limitation on top of that.
I also don't see allowing legendaries into gyms coming anywhere close to breaking the gym meta, for the following reasons.
1. Legendary Mons require a massive investment of level 5 raids and rare candies to power up/max out. As a result, most players won't have many that are truly going to be fearsome defensive powerhouses.
2. Several legendaries won't make good defenders; whether Rayquaza with it's low base defense, or plenty of others that only have single-bar charge moves that are likely to fire off only once.
3. Level 20 legendaries freshly caught from raids will offer very little challenge to attackers going after a gym. Level 25 weather-boosted catches will fare better as defenders, but will be far from devastating. So back to point 1, only the ones that have been invested in will prove challenging defenders.
On top of that, allowing legendaries to be placed in gyms will finally give some players a reason to consider investing in some of them; the ones whose stats are specifically oriented more towards defense. I'd certainly be more excited about raiding the Regis if I was able to power them up and plop them into gyms.
Lugia wouldn't really be any worse than Blissey already is and will get wrecked by T-tar. Plus, given that legendaries are tougher to power up than nonlegendaries and can't be found in the wild or hatched from eggs, you wouldn't be dealing with any legendary defenders with anywhere close to the frequency of Blissey.
