Chances of all three Regis?

Many people have been saying that three months of Regis will be extremely boring. The reasons here are two-fold. First, each Regi is very similar in typing and model in a way that the birds and beasts trios are not. Second, the Regis all have ridiculously high defense, which is a problem in two more ways. One is that since raid bosses are given a flat health amount, defense is the only stat that determines difficulty in dealing damage. This means that it will take more people to defeat it, punishing more isolated players even further. Additionally, the Regis will be less desirable, since they can't put out good dps and they can't be gym defenders, being legendaries.

Given all this, what is the chance that all three are released simultaneously for a full month? This seems more plausible because it will coincide with two events. First, it will be on-theme with the rock-tyranitar CD. Second, this means that the "standard" Gen 3 legendaries will end around the first week of July....which will be the 2-year anniversary of Pokemon Go's release, opening them up to do a ton of special events for it.

What do you guys think? There hasn't been any news yet of what's coming next after Ho-Oh leaves, so, why not cross our fingers and hope?

I'd prefer they just release all three at the same time. It was boring AF with the twins for two months, I couldn't imagine quarter of a year with 3 similar pokemon -_-
I hope they keep it down to just 4 weeks, 6 weeks max.

God I just want some player vs player battles. Nothing else is really exciting.

Not sure how PvP would work, given that when the pokemon are sent out, youd already know who'd win because every pokemon has an 'optimal' move set, either because it covers weaknesses or does the most damage, and unlike mainseries, you cant just teach it other moves to cover that, either because they cant learn those moves, or those overage moves are absolutely garbage on them.

I think thats why PvP hasn't been added, it wont work the way people think it will, and what would the reward for winning a battle be? if its nothing, then theirs no point, you may as well just have thrown away those potions and revives

I think the Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee will be the way they implement PvP. I don't think you can do it over the phones because of lag and speed differences.

That would be beyond awful, but seems likely now that you mention it. I'll probably quit Go if they do that, seeing as I don't have a Switch or have any intention of purchasing one.

What makes you think there can't just be a 1000xp + 300 stardust awarded to the winner?
And no, you wouldn't know who'd win due to "optimal" movesets. This is kind of a basic one and I'm surprised you even brought it up. Many pokemon have multiple good movesets. Tyranitar with Rock/Dark for example
Not only that, but you're also assuming that the game HAS to show each of the player's six pokemon, when it clearly doesn't.

Actually, the regies, at least Ice and Rock could have good DPS, they have high attack, and if regirock gets say rockthrow, it could be a good tank counter, Reci will more or less be just a tank counter to ice weak dragons, given that most ice types tend to be ice water and geared for defense (looking at you lapras and cloyster) it could be a very strong offensive Ice with solid bulk

Sadly, my favorite Registeel, you're trash, because its the mixed one in the main games, that doesn't translate well into GO, leaving it with the lowest attack, defense and CP of the three...at least it looks cool, but that low attack...wont even work for fairy counters, Aggron beats it, and thats saying something

I've tuned out to the whole "attackers" thing. When battling gyms, attackers are only good taking down Blissey. Blissey is the only thing that matters. If it's not better than Machamp then it doesn't matter.
Niantic needs to get off their lazy butts and fix this whole system.

That my friend it the reason the gym meta is at trash as it is, blissey doesn't matter as much as people like think it does, it actually does its job TOO well so it never leaves because people keep golden razzing it and you dont get coins unless you take down other gyms, but if it REALLY matters that much to you, all three are programmed to get focus blast, which blissey's weak to

Golden berry Blissey is pretty much the biggest problem in pokemon GO right now. I agree.

Both Regirock and Regice have an attack stat of 179. For reference, that's lower than Lugia, Snorlax, and Aggron. So while their massively high defense stat means they'll do the whole tank thing rather well, none of them will have stellar DPS. Currently, Regice would actually rank pretty decently as an ice-type attacker (since only Jynx has high ice DPS but is super frail), but unless they rerelease Rayquaza sometime soon, I don't see us having a huge need for ice type attackers for raids.

I really hope Niantic does all three at once, but it's pretty likely that they'll do a month of each. If that's the case, hopefully they bring back another legendary with it's shiny version to coincide with each one, to break up the three-month-long monotony. Registeel month is going to be brutal. Like, worse than Suicune month brutal.

Regice will at least be a good ice type for raids, because it has decent bulk while most ice types have none.

Raiquaza raids are hypothesized to be happening eventually, I just hope they dont do the dogs after the lati's instead of the regis, and that may be the case as they seems to like following patterns

Regirock would be the king against Articuno since it doesn't get wrecked by dodge glitch from a harmful Ground-typing, but Articuno has been demoted to research for now.

Up

Against any full flying rayquaza sets it could work too, but

It also will be good when gen V hits, regirock, and the others as well, seems to be more useful down the line rather than right now, I dont see a lot of people noting how they will do against future raids, just having the 'if they arent good against whats out now their crap' mentality

Up

The only reason Regice could be viable is because of the lack of any strong ice types in the game. Like you said there's tank Lapras on one side (with Cloyster, Walrein, Piloswine on this end) and glass cannon Jynx on the other. Once Gen 4 rolls around, Mamoswine, Weavile, Glaceon, all of these with crush jynx for dps and be a lot beefier, instantly being the top three, if they get even half-decent movesets.

Up

"most ice types have none"
Lapras and Articuno have great bulk. Walrein has good bulk. Cloyster and Piloswine have average bulk. Jynx is not "most ice types".

"High attack" is not something that the Regis have at 179 base. 220+ would be high. They are not hopeless as a TDO option but you only need one of those per type and they are likely going to be outclassed in TDO by SD Tyranitar and Mamoswine.

Up

We dont know how the Regi's stats are going to be, for all we know they may not be sunjected to the 9% nerf, and smack down tyranitar isnt in the game yet, they could still nerf it like they did with blast burn, and mamoswine's not in the game yet.

It doesn't seem likely most pokemon would be able to match their total damage simply because most pokemon do not have the kinds of defenses the regi's do. Most pokemon with his damage tend to be frail and really dont do as much as people like to think, plus in raids having so switch between fainted pokemon and whipping out costs precious time, having a less DPS pokemon, but has a lot more total damage ot only saves healing items (something frequent raiders can run out of) but also can net you more balls to catch with.

Up

179 is the *unnerfed* base attack stat of Regirock and Regice. The 9% nerf only affects the strongest legendaries and Slaking.

TDO is a function of both DPS and survivability. With the current SD stats, Tyranitar wins Regirock in TDO by 3% while winning it in DPS by a massive 37,5%. Yes, it's true they could nerf SD and make it a bad quick move, but it would need a BIG nerf to make you prefer Regirock in any situation, especially since it requires rare candy and Tyranitar candy is going to be there in heaps for anyone who can attend CD.

EDIT: Literally everything in this post is based on known facts and it contains zero opinion. I'd really like to understand where that downvote comes from.

I still cry that the meta has become the question which Legendary to capture for the coming month.

Would be nice if they put the regis out for a month (or like, 2 week rotation each at most). If they feel like they need more time, then leave the regis active alongside a rerelease of the other Gen 3 legendaries.

Up

I don’t see why they couldn’t do two week rotations, it’s how they handled the birds. But I could easily see them doing two-three weeks each with a week of overlap.

I hate multiple T5s at once. Even if the Regis are trash, they are still for collectors something people want a high IV of. If they are all out and I only need say a High IV Regice, I'm going to be very frustrated waiting on black eggs to hatch only to be disappointed its not my target. Especially without scanners.

I'd much rather see 1 Week of Each Solo. 1 Week of Overlap.
More likely they will do 2/2

Up

I think most of the problems with overlapping in the past is that there's often a big discrepancy in the desirability of the two pokemon. With Latias/Ho-Oh overlap, well, Latias was already been out for three weeks, isn't a good attacker, and Ho-Oh has a chance to be shiny, so obviously everyone hopes it's gonna hatch a Ho-Oh. But with three regis at the same time, it'll be a lot more even in terms of desirability, and they're all out at the same time, so it's not three weeks of latias fatigue.

Up
0
Down

At least with the regi's each ones different, so that would make them more desirable. its not like a good one and a bad one like with latias/ho-oh, if you need an ice attacker get Ice, if you need a rock attacker get Rock, if you need a steel attacker go walk a scyther because registeel's trash

I'd be all for having all three available at the same time, that would keep the boredom at bay for a little while. In the last month I've done 3 Latias raids (caught one) and one Ho-Oh (caught it), and a bunch of lower level raids. Not much excitement about these, or the Regis. (In contrast, I did 28 Rayquaza raids and 37 Kyogre raids.) Having all three out at once would raise my interest a bit, and would mean less total time used up with them. Hopefully they have something exciting ready for the game's 2nd birthday (and not just Malibu Stacy, oh, sorry, I mean Pikachu, with a new hat). A month of Regis, and then Gen 4 in early July would be awesome. Regis from now until early September would suck - they would have to do a lot of other interesting things, or the prime northern hemisphere outdoor months would be wasted.

It was kind of annoying having Kyogre and Rayquaza come out when the weather was cold in most of the northern hemisphere. I'm sure people in Miami weren't complaining, but most of us had snow and cold to deal with (and occasional wind, which buffed Ray). Kyogre with blizzard in the snow was a nightmare, and one didn't even get a buffed catch out of it.

And now I can see things timing out with three months of Regis, and then some more so-so stuff, and us getting Dialga and Palkia and Heatran in January and February, freezing our keesters off while trying to do as many raids as possible.

Another possibility would be a different Regi every week, followed by a week of all three. Get your Machamp teams ready.

Up

Machamp may not bee the best option, as theres other pokemon the regies are weak to that resist them, against regirock machamp will be good as it resists rock, but Groudon's a better option, also resisting it and having higher everything, the same applies with registeel, both take neutral damage, but groudon's better stats

fire types, especually all those new and souped up blast burn charizrd resist registeel, and non flying firetypes also resist regice (and with them all being programed with focus blast and earthquake charizards even more usable)

machamp may seem like the best option, but really only for regirock, agaisnt the other 2 theres better options, either having higher everything or resisting their attacks. Machamp will still be good, but wont be the best thing like it seems to be

Up

Regis don't automatically carry STAB movesets. In the current game master, each has only one STAB fast move and one STAB charge move. Something worth keeping in mind when considering their counters.
Machamp is the top non-legendary attacker against all of them in neutral weather and that's why people keep mentioning it. It's a good rule of thumb.

Up

I agree that 3 months of Regis would be terrible. But I think the most important thing to look out for is the other legendaries that would be joining them. We had Lugia and Ho-oh, it would be possible more shinies are incoming. That would be a good way, if not perfect, to keep us raiding.

release them all as Tier 2 and we can try and solo them.

Up

Why? Tier 5 raids are just 15 people tapping. No skill needed.

Up

I did a Mewtwo yesterday with 4 phones...Confusion Focus Blast, it took great skill to try to swipe battle parties, even on the initial countdown screen. 2223 level 40; 2246 level 34; 2236 level 34; 2255 level 29.

With more swipe time and a more comfortable setting (was hot) can do most if not all with 40, 34, 34...will get that chance on the 12th...at a Sprint so can do it in my car.
