Pikachu as Special Research reward

Pikachu is THE symbol of Pokemon. If you think Pokemon, you think Pikachu.

Pikachu is a ridiculous Pokemon in Pokemon Go. His irrelevance stat is far beyond 15. Gamepress didn't even devote a little descriptive text for this iconic creature. Currently he sits on Willow's shoulder, but other than that nobody cares about it.

This Alolan Exeggutor business and all these Pikachus in hats gave a me a nifty idea. Why not make Pikachu, much like Mew, a Special Research reward? But not just any Pikachu. Ash's Pikachu! With special stats that would boost his Attack in particular to pseudo-legendary heights. He wouldn't be a new Pokedex entry, but much like the Alolan stuff the same Pokemon, just with different moves and statistics. And like with Mew, you could only catch one. It would become the first to-go-to Pokemon for any Electric type of attack.

A neat idea, but personally, after the numerous times that Niantic has set Pikachu at center stage (all the holiday hat event Pikas, Pika community day, the Yokohama Pikachu Outbreak event), I would be fine if I never saw a Pikachu ever again. I have no doubt that some people would absolutely love the idea of an overclocked Pikachu with pseudo-legendary stats. I'd be one of the people that would be 0% excited about completing that special research.

If this pseudo-legendary Pikachu were to outperform Zapdos and Raikou, then I'd just hate everything about it. 😋

Exactly. True Pokemon fans are turned off by the excessive emphasis on Pikachu.

If we have Ash's Pikachu, why not Ash's Pidgeotto (for example)?

because Pidgeotto looks just like a bird and it doesn't sell

I don’t think Niantic has any rights to create any Pokémon or customize for that matter without Gamefreak/pokemon company or whatever has the legal claims.
