Alternative mons to mewtwo's role

Under the current ex raid mechanism, I don't think I can get a mewtwo or a few. Therefore, what alternative mons can fill the gap of mewtwo roles in the current meta.

A skilled Alakazam user can deal near-Mewtwo level damage with PC/FS since it is better than Mewtwo's pure psychic moveset. Dodging is a must though

How does Alakazam with PC/FoB or Cn/FoB compare to Mewtwo with the same moves? Asking because, apart from my 98% Alakzam with Cn/FS and 96% Alakazam with PC/FS, I have a 96% Abra and more than enough Abra candy.

I can't think of a situation where I'd use a FoB on Alakazam or Mewtwo for that matter. I know some people like C/FoB on Mewtwo for attacking gyms. But to answer your question, C/FoB just leaves Alakazam wide open to a quick death

I didn't realize Mewtwo really had a role. Honestly, I rarely use mine.

Mewtwo doesn't have a big dedicated role for the most part, it's just useful for a lot of things. Tyranitars can take care of psychic and ghost types, Dragons, Raikou and Kyogre can do most gym generalist jobs and Alakazam and Espeon are good for psychic type damage. Machamp counters normal types. That's everything you need to cover the various jobs Mewtwo could accomplish.

I use my Mewtwo all the time but it's by no means essential.

I use my maxed out Machamp the most. Mewtwo I just use for a gym sweeper because confusion just hurts defenders so much. But you can use Dragonite, or even Latios as a great sweeper. Mewtwo is just a hard hitter. For a psychic replacement use alakazam or Espeon. Both have future sight.

Two Mews could be a good alternative.
