Groudon Charge Move

Looking ahead, is solar beam or earthquake better on groudon?

I have a perfect Groudon with solar beam that I powered up for use in Kyogre raids. I also have a solid one (HP/A/D = 15/14/13). Since grass Groudon is pretty good in that role, but he is still the top ground attacker, I'd like one of each. Which charge move should go on the powered up perfect? Is the other charge move worth powering up past 30 (since it will need to be all rare candy)?

Mud Shot hits harder than Dragon Tail and offers better coverage. I prefer Earthquake over Solar Beam and Fire Blast is just inferior in every way.

Mud Shot and Dragon Tail perform pretty much equal against targets neutral to both, although breakpoints can change that. Famous example of that was the DT breakpoint at level 39 against Kyogre which made DT much better for maxed Groudons.

I had solar beam during raids, came with it didn’t bother that time. However since Venusaur community day I changed it to earthquake, Groudon is better off as a ground type even with how bad earthquake is, and Venusaur is fantastic with multi bar move

In the pre-Frenzy Plant era Solar Beam on Groudon made sense for a lot of folks. Post-Frenzy Plant? I TMed mine to pure ground.

Solar beam Groudon is the top overall counter vs Regirock and Earthquake Groudon will be the best counter vs Heatran and Dialga

Groudon will be the best TDO counter against Dialga, but Machamp will have better DPS.
You're entirely right about Heatran, very good reason to have strong ground attackers in the future.

EQ easily right now. FP Venusaur is better as a grass attacker than SoB Groudon so if you have those, there's not much reason to have SoB other than future special cases like Blizzard Kyogre, and those are hard to predict.

That said, there's not much reason to have a powered up Groudon at all currently. If it's often weatherboosted for you it gets better, but if not, why power one up? I've only used my Groudon a few times in the last two months in some challenge runs and when I rejoin against Thunder Latias at the very end of the raid and it's #1 on autoselect.
