Did you stop evolving valuable pokémons?

I did, due to tasks and community days. I am afraid that I evolve something hard to obtain, then weeks later it will be a task or gets a special move during community day.

Yes, me too. Unless its something I immediately need (like an 98% L30 Magikarp) and use Im just storing my good IV unevolved species.

I think it's pretty wise to stop evolving right now, for Community Day mechanisms.
Of course, If you need that strong Pokemon right now, go with the evolution!

Yep, I stopped evolving good IV pokemon that I do not have a direct use for. That's bad design on Niantic's part. As has been proposed, either here or on reddit, to have a once-per-CD quest during Community Day to receive a TM that can change a move to a Community Day-only move.

I imagine the only reason they stopped letting people TM on Community Day was so people would try to catch more (and buy boxes). They could solve that with a field task like ''Catch 50 Charmanders - get a special Charizard TM''

The problem with allowing TMs on the first community day was the bonuses encouraged people to sit at home and mass evolve. These later community day bonuses have encouraged getting out and walking around.

The thing about that CD is that double xp for everything is just too powerful to get a lot of extra xp without the need to participate in the CD itself. Pair that with a "boring" Pokemon like Pikachu, you get a lot of people not participating even if they are available. Allowing (charge) TMs to work during CD would give the same problem if the Pokemon is not top notch, but a CD-only TM would alleviate the problem of keeping Pokemon unevolved because it could be a future CD Pokemon.

If it could be used on any CD Pokemon, it could encourage more participation when the move is lackluster.

Well, yes and no. The inability to TM only incentivizes you to go out and catch if you can't evolve a few sitting at home. Shinies are the strongest incentive to go out and limiting the event bonus to catches only does most of the rest. I think there wouldn't be much of a change in attendance if they let us TM now.

Im holding off on Wailord, Milotic, and i've stopped evolving Swablu.
I'm also keeping 2 of each Evolution item and enough candy to evolve the corresponding Pokemon for each one if necessary.

I'm not gonna worry too much about Community Day because I usually find several high level ones with great IVs on the day of.
Community Day TM's are a good idea though

Mew too ;)

I evolved a 87%, level 27 bagon to metagross for the pokedex entry. But I'm holdng on a second 98% one even I have enough candy. Just in case a CD gives Metagross better moves.

That's the one flaw that I see for CD. They should release a task that grants an special TM which you could use to TM the CD special move to one of your existing pokemon. You could only get one of this TM via quest during the 3 hours period of CD. It would still make people to participate in CD, but also would allow people with a maxed or great IV version of the featured pokemon to obtain that special move.

How'd you do that, Bagon -> Metagross?

Seriously, you mean Beldum, right?

It really depends on the Pokemon. I have a 100% Beldum I'm definitely saving for a community day, and that's largely because Metagross has crap charge moves. For Pokemon that are already useful I wouldn't sweat it. As other people mentioned usually it's easy to get one or two at least with good IVs on CD.

On a related note, I'm definitely going to keep a minimum of 400 candies for the evolutions that require them because of possible special research tasks.

I'm the same way. I have kept 400 candies of the 3 that require it. If there hadn't been a Magikarp nest during the double candy event, I'd still be working on it.

Before I had been powering up my evolved one because I never planned on getting 400 candies again. Now I'm sitting with 2 level 33 gyrados and almost 900 candies. Almost at 400 of the walmier which should be easy right now and over 600 of the swabulls.

I'm afraid they feebas well be the next one. I have a perfect one that I have been using all my candies on so I don't have a bank of those but I'm working on it (waiting on the walking because there are other stuff I need candy for)

Yes, at least all the way. I might go to second stage if there is one, but I've stopped finishing the line.

I have a couple good Rhydons saved up for Rhyperior. The same question applies - when Rhyperior is released, do you evolve your best Rhydons, or wait for a community day Rhyhorn event, so you don't miss out on some meta relevant Rhyperior charge move.

I don't particularly like this level of uncertainty, reminds me of all evolves I transferred before TM's came out.

I'm not worried at all about that particular case. I can tap into my collection of level 29 and 30 Rhydons with Megahorn. I have at least a dozen. Some are better than others, but all have that useless bug charge move, I have enough with earthquake and Stone Edge, and they don't merit a CTM. When Rhyperior comes out, I'm ready.

I guess it will depend on what you mean by "valuable". I've stopped evolving anything but Mass-Evolution or Research Task Pokémon (evolve 5 fire types, for example), and I am hoarding enough candies to do complete evolutions for as many Pokémon as I can - even if that means I don't evolve good Pokémon right now. (I've got an 87% Bagon that happens to be the best Bagon I've gotten so far, but I don't need a Salamence right now. It would just be a Dex entry)

I might still evolve "valuable" Pokémon as time goes on, if I haven't seen evidence that those Pokémon will be either a Research Project or a Community Day Pokémon. (Though I'm holding on to a Larvitar 96% Larvitar just in case we get a Larvitar Community Day, for example, even though I'm pretty sure this will never happen as Tyranitar is just too powerful and too useful of a Pokémon in the current Raid Meta. PROVE ME WRONG NIANTIC!!!!)

So... yeah, I guess you could say I'm in the same boat as you, quibbling only over the word "valuable". But essentially the same thing as you for the same reasons.

I stopped mass evolving anything other than commons nearly a year ago (I was in my low 30's back then). For uncommon/rare, I won't evolve it unless I've already got >1000 candy for 125 candy evols, and >500 for 50 or less candy evols and even then it has to be decent or great IV&High level. For ultra-rare, I only evolve 90+%iv and 30+Lv. If I already have more than 5, I save those great candidates for a community day thing.

Most of my teams are 8-20 deep except poison, fairy, and steel, so I have no need to evolve much so I save nearly all good candidates unless a new raid boss requires it.

Yes but mainly because I reached level 40 so I don't need to evolve anything right now
