Do you evolve your top iv Pokemon?
So ever since the community day became a thing, I have been hesitant to evolve my top IV pokemon, as I don't want to miss out on a unique chare move in case the pokemon is featured during a community day at one point. For example, I recently was lucky enough to catch a 100% Geodude. And even though I have only one other high CP Golem, I've yet to evolve it.
My question: what is your approach, having the community days in mind?
Answers
I've taken the approach of not evolving anything that I don't immediately need just in case:
a) it becomes a featured community day Mon with a special move
b) a future research quest asks me to evolve it (like Karp for the Mew quest).
So far for community days, there's been a precedence of only doing starters and non-nesting 10k egg Mons, though that cycle could easily be broken at any time. So my personal advice would be to hold off on evolving things unless:
a) you need it for a Dex entry or for gym/raid battles.
b) it currently has an amazing moveset and you're worried it could become legacy.
c) it's a fodder Mon (Pidgey et. al) that you're using for mass evolves or a Dex-entry type Mon that won't be meta relevant regardless of moves.
Currently I only consider starters and 5km buddies to be "risky" for getting a community day as so far there has been a clear pattern. If I need a pokemon outside of that group, I evolve it without second thought. If you don't need a pokemon now, there's no reason to evolve it yet.
So for example I have evolved all my high level Geodudes and Machops recently because they will make meaningful additions to my A or B teams, but I've started hoarding more good IV starters and some of the 10km hatches.
I've been faced with a similar conundrum recently and ultimately I think it varies from one Pokemon to another. Geodude is probably a safe bet to evolve since Rock type attacks can't get much better than RT/SE.
An example of something I'm holding off on evolving is a 100% Beldum I caught the other day. The only thing holding Metagross back from being stellar is his moves and a community day could fix that.
