Onix raid - harder than expected

In partly cloudy weather timed out against Onix, no dodging. Team was L31 WF/HP Gyarados and L31 HP Kyogre and a L25 Kyogre. Then started with Kyogre and continued with L35 FP Venusaur, L35 BS/SOB Exeggutor, that beat Onix with one digit time left. Nearly the same against a SE Onix. Tapping challenge!

Did you dodge? I mean the line up you are using is the bear minimum so in that sense it doesn't surprise me too much

According to the solo guide, Ky is viable at level 25 "can nearly 1v1 Onix at L25". I thought a level 31 will have a more generous advantage.

I think that takes dodging specials into account, my Lv40 Kyogre took ~60% of it's health, if I recall correctly

I was surprised too, scraped by with single digits left with 1 Kyogre and 1 Gyarados, no dodging since his attack was so weak

Use only Kyogre or Exeggutor/Venusaur without the weather boost for attackers.

I also tried Onix, however with neutral weather. First try was with 37 BS/LB Sceptile+ 5 VW/FP Venu( i used only 3 of them, all are weather boosted catches 30-35 lvls) timed out like 5 sec. Second fight i started with 35 lvl Kyogre and he ate 2/3 Onix hp. Finished with 2 Venusaur, but only with 7 sec left. I did only one dodge with Kyogre to prevent destroy with 90% energy needed for HP. Onix had Tackle/ Heavy Slam.

Hes pretty hard without boosting attackers. I think 30+ Kyogre is a must have and 2nd choice is double water Gyarados( which i unfortunately havent) Dodging hurts attackers, cause he hit with laughable dmg.

I'd just be happy to find one. I keep seeing Latios and stuff I've already fought. I really wish they would have limited the pool this week to brand new raid bosses only. I probably won't get to try Onix or Kabutops at this rate

Slightly off topic I'm interested to know who wins the DPS race, level 25 kyogre or level 30 gyarados?

Previous questions I've asked gave me responses like L25 Kyogre is similar to L33-34 Gyarados, but i'm sure part of that was due to the bulk upgrade too.

At L25 it's not yet at the supreme point but I could well see it doing more damage than L30 gyarados I reckon? So might be better slotting more WB kyogre than gyarados.

A level 24.5 15A Kyogre hits just as hard as a level 32.5 15A Gyarados, which is also the last breakpoints for waterfall for gyarados.

Level 25 Kyogre wins level 30 Gyarados in DPS. Kyogre has absolutely massive attack stat and reaches higher level Gyarados's DPS at quite low levels. It needs to go closer in level to reach the same tankiness as its advantage in those stats isn't as large.

Isn't groudon also a good counter with mud shot/Solarbeam?
Resist rock but ground is not double effective.

Got my chance at Onix this morning. It took two Pokemon:

Kyogre, Lvl 33 WF/HP
Kyogre, Lvl 31 WF/HP

The first took out about 60% of the health (the first HP from Kyogre #2 put him in the red.) Has 35 seconds left.

Next time, I will try my Double Water Gary instead of the second Mon. This is pretty cheap on Revives and heals, so I will try it with other 2nd Mon as well. Maybe my Lvl 35 Swampert.

I did it with 2x Kyogre L30 and a perfect Gyarados L39 which just finished the last 20% or less. I had 23 seconds on the clock... maybe I was getting hit harder with different boss charge move (I think it was Sand Tomb) and building up energy faster, or I could fire off more Hydro Pumps with the 2nd Kyogre?
