Do the field research tasks get better after you get your 100 medal?

I got a silver medal earlier today for completing 100 field research. I just got the best field research challenge yet, "catch a dragon-type pokemon" for 1500 stardust. Now that's more like it! Is it related to the medal or is it just a more rare task that anybody can get?

The quests are the same for everyone. The good ones are more rare.

That was the first quest I ever got lol.
And I've received it again, both times on the same pokestop

Well darn. I was hoping I was beyond "catch 3 swablu" for a stupid berry all the time. :(

To each his own, I guess. I've got 200+ rare candy I don't know what to do with. Give me the dust!

This is what I've spent RC on, plus a 3000+ Zapdos. Two 2900 Moltres. Another 2900 Raikou. Need 10 more to finish my Kyogre. Tons more for Groudon. A lot more for Rayquaza, too...

I get stuff and then I spend stuff, I finally decided to max more things bc gonna spend it anyway. However, lack of rare candy has me maxing Dragonite #3 right now. I'd also rather be putting it to finishing: Salamence, Gardevoir, maxing another Tyranitar...but Dratini is the only worthwhile candy I have right now

There are stardust events and starpieces, but rare candy is simply rare. Never have more than 20 because any I get is instantly used.

Do more high tier raids, and you'll have plenty of RC. I slow down my legendary power ups when my rare candy drops below 100. Dust is the limiting factor for me, which makes it harder to power up Machamp and the other non legendaries.

You have to do A LOT of high tier raids to not be limited by RC. I'm at 300+ legendary raids and don't even nearly have enough RC for all my legendaries that are worth powering up. Some friends who are at 500+ seem to be just about getting there on the RC front.

Exactly.

I'm a filthy casual (1, maybe 2, raids a day) so my rare candy numbers are limited. Sure I do have 250 sitting in my bag gathering dust (until I get a 100%/98% legendary that I want at 40 instantly), but anything above that is spent immediately and I'm nowhere near having one of each legendary at 35-40. Luckily 2 months of worthless dragons (and maybe 3 months of worthless golems) gives me some freedom to spend rare candy on older legendaries.

Stardust on the other hand is sometimes spent for fun (still spent on useful attackers with good IVs, though) because I have plenty anyway. My most recent "why nots" are a Tyranitar from lvl 6 to 40 and two Dragonite from below 20 to 40.

200 rare candy goes in a whiff. Pretty much any Mewtwo/Raikou/Kyogre/Groudon is worth leveling up beyond level 30 regardless of IVs.
