TMing an Espeon for Machamp

Hey all,

Just evolved a 15 atk 15 HP Espeon, he's sitting at a whopping 2687 without power upside, but I rolled Zen/Psybeam. The primary use for this Espeon was Machamp solos, but I'm worried that his moveset isn't viable. Should I bother using TMs to try for Confusion/Future? Or will his dps be enough with his current moves? Thanks in advance

Charge TM... psychic and future sight are better than psybeam so you're guaranteed to get a better move.

Disagree. Psychic is arguably worse than Psybeam, and definitely not worth risking a charge TM.

Fast TM is a no-brainer, however, if the goal is Machamp raids. Confusion/psybeam is as good or better than ZH/FS.

Psybeam is worth using a TM on because you could get Future Sight, but Psychic is on average still a slight improvement. You aren't forced to use another one to revert back from an inferior move which is a problem many other pokemon have.

I would suggest trying him out first and see if you like it's performance before TM'ing. Zen Headbutt will allow you to dodge and that's important for Espeon to be effective

Would you suggest anything besides Machamp itself for a trial run? If not.. What should I look for in a non-C/FS Espeon? This is my first one over 2500 that has these moves, so I'm accustomed to the big slow hits of the latter moveset

Espeon is also a good counter for Gengar raids but again dodging is crucial for Espeon to survive. Choose one of those raids, or both, and put Espeon in the first slot so you can get a good idea of how much damage he's dealing

I've done dozens of Machamp solos, usually with 20-30 seconds to spare, and I never dodge. I frontload high DPS 'Zams and Espeons to get ahead of the clock (confusion is critical for this), and put tanks in the last two slots (hurricane Dragonite and Lugia). Way more Machamp solos are lost because of too much dodging than because of not enough dodging.

The important point here is that survivability is not about how long you survive; it is about surviving longer than the raid boss. So, high DPS (confusion plus minimal dodging) usually trumps tankiness.

I agree, with Dnite and Lugia anchoring you can beat Machamp with your eyes closed. But he's using 5 glass cannons and an Exeggutor who's almost glass. He's going to need to dodge some charge moves but it can be done without timing out.

As of my latest Espeon this is my team currently,

Alakazam: Psycho Cut/FS
1st Espeon: Zen/Psybeam
2nd: Confusion/FS
3rd: Confusion/Psybeam
4th: Confusion/Psybeam
Eggy: ES/SoB

Should I focus on dodging to fire off more charge moves, or will TMing my strongest Espeon tip the scale? I've always timed out using my DT/O Dragonite at 3050, and my 2590 Gardevoir has Confusion/Shadow Ball so I don't really use her.

Try to catch a Machamp raid when its just hatched and try your first run with no dodging and see if it works out for ya. If that doesn't work, heal up and try again with dodging. That team can do it but it's pretty glassy
