Soloing Gengar is so difficult

Hex + Sludge Bomb, Cloudy weather boost, I lost ~40 Potions and Revives combined, along with some Stardust and Rare Candies.

Stardust and RCs weren't an issue, but the problem is I tried 4 times, all FAINTED, relobbying took too much time plus boss regaining HP.

I used a team of Bite/Crunch Tyranitar, SC/ShB Gengar, PC/FS Alakazam, DT/Outrage Rayquaza, Confusion/Psybeam Espeon and MS/Earthquake Groudon. The first 4 Pokémon are around level 30, and the last 2 are around 25.

I dodged 70% of Sludge Bombs across the whole team, but still failed. Groudon wasn't tanky enough to be a very good anchor.

Should I add Steelix or even Aggron to replace the Alakazam/Espeon? Or power up Groudon to another bulk point?

DPS wasn't an issue, I could solo it with like 30 seconds left if my Groudon had infinite HP.

Groudon: level 24.5, IV 15/14/12
Espeon: level 28, IV ??/??/14
Rayquaza: level 28, IV 14/15/10
Alakazam: level 30, IV 15/4/12
Gengar: level 30, IV 13/14/15
Tyranitar: level 29.5, IV 14/15/10

If you have a Metagross that would be a good option for Poison sets.

Obviously power up your Groudon and Espeon to at least 30. That Rayquaza shouldn't really be in your team unless it's windy, in which case another Psychic type would still be better. If you are really fainting with alot of time left, put Lugia in the last slot with E/FS

Ray is a decent alternative IF you don't have enough good Mewtwo, Gengar, Espeon, Alakazam or Tyranitar. Lugia doesn't really have enough DPS but might work in some cases.

Try using a level 30 Rhydon (which is doubly resistant to poison) with MS/EQ as an anchor, replacing the Espeon (using multiple glass cannons is only good against Focus Blast). Also power up your Groudon to level 30.

Best option is to power up Espeon and TM to Future Sight. C/PB Espeon is over 10 % slower than C/FS Espeon.

Another way to save a few seconds is to quit before losing all pokemons and rejoining with a second ready-made battle group.

The reason why I dislike using Future Sight on Espeon: too fragile to get a FS off.

Relobbying really cost me a ton of time, I have seen boss regained 500 HP back.

I think that if you quit before all your team is wiped out the boss don't regain HP.

Soloing T3 is one of the only challenges in this game...how can you expect to win with such a team fighting with pokemon below level 25...go out, catch some good mons and invest your dust and you will succeed.

I agree 100%. You can't expect to win with low levels. It's not forbidden to level ABOVE thirty. And then you will know that levelling above thirty actually yields benefits.

I would level the Psychics and TTar first.

You always complain about how hard soloing these various raids is, but your teams are always under-powered and/or poorly chosen. Power up your attackers, man! Nothing should be under 30, at minimum.

I use
Genger SC/SB CP 2248
TTar B/C CP 3489
Rhydon MS/EQ 3128
Alakazam C/FS 2695
Alakazam PC/FB 2804

I never have much trouble with it, I only dodge with the Genger and Alakazams and even then I'm not a good dodger. I think you are using the right mons, they just need to be stronger. Use a break point tool to see where you would get maximum help for star dust spent.

Add another Ttar, and power up groudon to L30
Of course a low level Groudon won’t be very bulky

Then definitely power up the Groudon! More DPS also means more TDO, doing more damage in the same duration.

General strategy with tier 3 solos is that if you're fainting too soon, but you're dealing enough damage then you need to dodge more. This is especially the case of underpowered attackers like you're using.

I dodged as much as I could, but sometimes the raid lags prevented me from successfully doing all dodges.

If you were to dodge all of the charged moves successfully, GoBattleSim projects about a 95% chance of winning. That's pretty hard against Sludge Bomb though. The real problem is the cloudy weather boosting Sludge Bomb.

4 level 40 Tyranitars gets the job done for me in a solo.

Thanks, everyone, I will power up my Groudon to level 30, or at least to the next bulk point.
