Poison-type attackers

The only three types that I lack attackers for are Normal, Steel and Poison. I am still walking Beldum and of course, Normal is virtually useless on offence.

What current and future roles are there for Poison-type attackers? Granbull will not be around for long and Gardevoir is super-effective against Poison-types.

If I do decide to invest up to 75k stardust and some TMs on a Poison-type attacker, which would be best? Muk? Nidoking? Victreebel? Tentacruel?

(I have a L20 15/12/14 Muk with Lick/DP, a L20 14/14/13 Nidoking with FC/SW, a L26 13/11/15 Victreebel with Acid/LB and a L27 14/10/15 Tentacruel with Acid/HP. IVs are A/D/S.)

Muk and Nidoking are both legacy sets, very nice!

Too bad the legacy fast moves are useless for a potential Poison-type attacker (though I could throw my Muk into gyms).

Lick is solid on attack. If you want it as a defender, that is the worst quick move.

Infestation is a solid choice for Muk on defense. Such a pity that Groudon absolutely swats him.

For offense I do use my Victreebel sometimes, while I never use any of the others you mentioned (sometimes Muk for fun to throw in gym as a defender). But I only use it as a grass type really.

But really I think your answer is Gengar.

Poison type is of little value right now. I wouldn't invest too much into any.

muk if you really want to, but before i power something up i always ask myself, how will this help me and what will I use it for, if i cant find an answer then i won't power it up

I have played the Nintendo games and never have I found the need to have a poison attacker, but I will admit Alolan Muk was cool being Dark/Poison. The only cool thing about poison mons was the status attacks. Moves like toxic poisoned them and inflicted massive damage.

Unless we get status conditions, there is no reason to invest in a poison Pokemon other than for fun. That being said, I enjoy Muk and still use him. His damage output is nice and he is really bulky. I use him as a generalist. I wouldn't get rid of legacy lick, but TM the charge move.

If you dodge a lot Gengar and Victreebel are great poison options. But I actually prefer Venusaur. He is bulkier and does solid damage with sludge bomb.

A normal attacker isn't really needed. In the other games I try to have a steel Pokemon, or at least one with a steel move (deals with fairies for my lack of poison Pokemon.) I'm personally holding out for Megnezone in Go.

Today I powered a muk for the first time ever, just to have one ready to try against granbull raids. But for the rest of the team I'm using gengar and venusaur with sludge bomb and weather boosted aggrons. I don't think it's worth to invest much in poison types, but Muk is the best choice.

For steel aggron or scizor are easier to obtain than metagross and will probably perform about the same level

Go for Victreebel.
Sludge Bomb is nice 2 bar move and have synergy with Acid. Gengar and Venusaur cant be called true poison attacker due to lack of fast move. Tentacruel just have 1 bar move and poor attack .Nidoking is worse than Victreebel. Muk looks good, but is slower( 1 bar but cool animation of Gunk Shot) and harder to get candies.
