...does this scale with what buddy you're walking? Because my Lugia won't stop laughing....

I have 7 gyarados...6 good ones 2994 to 2787, 1 shiny 2000. My 100% is at level 30. Just caught a 15a 98% level 18 magikarp. I have 325 candies. I switched yesterday, to hell with beldum walking.

Finish whatever you are walking for candy 1. Switch to 1k mon and get 2nd. Go back to whatever you care about.

I will continue to walk Beldum, as its candy is more valuable to me than completing the task slightly faster.

(In any case, Lugia is a bad buddy choice. Rare Candy is for legendaries.)

Totally depends on how your candy situation is.

Some people is overstuffed with rare candies, but lack crucial normal candies. Others drowns in regular candies but are really tight on rare candy.

Before the release of Bedlum I walked Mewtwo for 900 km, since that was the only productive thing I could do with a buddy.

I was already prepared to walk my Eevee into an Umbreon today, so it worked out well for me. Next challenge was to evolve 5 fire type. fml
