Is muk still a viable gym defender?

I got a 14/14/14 grimer from an egg long time ago and I'm still doubting on investing some stardust on it.

Muk is more of an interesting/unique defender more than anything (since you don't often see one in gyms). The one big upside to Muk is that it resists fighting, so it'll likely cause an attacker looking to sweep a gym with Machamp to swap to something else (unless of course the Muk has low motivation).

Unfortunately, Muk also gets murdered by psychic types and will only give them a hard time if it knows Infestation/Dark Pulse.

So, if you want a cool novelty defender, then sure, go for Muk! In all practicality though, Muk isn't a stellar defender (or attacker for that matter), so unless it's a personal favorite of yours or a long overdue pet project, then I'd advise saving the dust for more optimal Mons.

Also, if you get Gunk Shot as the charge move, consider not TMing it simply because it has one of the coolest looking animations in the game. You throw a garbage can at the opponent! 😁

I read about it lol. Also I live in a zone where we cloudy weather is very common and GS would hurt. However I'm not a big fan of 1bar-chargemove gym defenders.

as viable as any defender after Blissey or Golden Raz. Which is to say it doesn't really matter. Sorry... it's the truth.

No, every "defender" but blissey is not a defender.

I caught a 2976cp L/HB Snorlax yesterday. At the least, the sight of it will make someone think I'm stupid/stubborn enough to care about that one particular gym at that one particular time.

probably not. it goes down in something like 40-50 seconds to a good Machamp.

I regularly lay my 100% Muk (2496 CP) in gyms. Like anything else, it can be kicked out in mere minutes if someone is determined, so usually you need a few others to support it.

Even Blissey of 3100 CP is only a matter of 5-10 minutes nowadays given the boosts of type effectiveness, weather and the ease of obtaining high level Pokémon of any type. Muk in particular is less safe now with abundance of Groudon and Mewtwo.

Groudon is really Muk's problem, since you can at least put an Infestation/Dark Pulse Muk in to deal with Mewtwo.

FWIW, I've got one offensive Muk powered up to L40 with PJ/GS (because I love him) and one defensive Muk from a L35 wild-caught Grimer that got I/DP for gyms. Perfect.

Muk is pretty good. Not worth investment though unless you've got lots of dust.

As a poison type, he can help give Machamp a hard time because he resists fighting. So placing him next to Blissey, Snorlax, or Chansey can be useful.

For gym defense, BSC or nothing.
