Level cap is back down to 39

I guess I need a question. So I'll ask this. What do think Niantic was trying to change that caused the level cap to go back to 39

Edit. A local level 37 player posted a screenshot of a level 39 Gyarados with no power up button. Instead of the button just being inactive like it was in the past. Is this a new thing I didn't know about and the button comes back when he levels up?

Where are you seeing this? If it's true it would be on the front page of silph road, in which i haven't seen anything about this.

One of my local raid group members posted screenshots of their level 39 Gyarados that didn't have a power up button anymore. But according to the next comment it will come back when they level up?

If a player at level 37 powers a pokemon to level 39, then the power up button disappears. When that player reaches level 38, the power up button will return.

The power up button never disappeared before. Unless this is only for level 37 players

... ? Yeah it did. There was huge controversy about the fact that the power up button disappeared at level 39 client-side even though with various workarounds the server could continue accepting input to power to 40.

Whatever was causing the button to disappear at pokemon level 39 has been patched for player level 38 and higher, but maybe not completely fixed because it still disappears at pokemon level 39 for player level 37.

Is this a new thing for all levels or only level 37 players.

For example if a level 36 player powers a Pokemon up to level 38 does the button disappear or just become inactive like it did in the past

Where are you getting this information from?

It was originally a glitch/bug which they couldn't or didn't want to resolve for over a year. Should have been 40 from start.

I can 100% confirm that when you are level 37, you can power up a mon to level 39 and the power up bar goes away. When you hit level 38, the power up bar returns and you can power it up to level 40.

Source: I just hit level 38 on Saturday and did all of these things.

Thank you. This is the info I needed. I was already level 38 when they fixed the Pokemon level cap so I was confused seeing a level 39 Pokemon without a power up button again. Didn't know they only half fixed the problem
