What I glean from that new guide is that Dragonite is still the king.
I do want to power up a double-flying Ray to 30 though

Dragonite is not the king, Rayquaza is, but the king is hella expensive and not really necessary. Dragonite is like your energy efficient family car that does its job well, while Rayquaza is a sports car, more luxury than necessity.

The article completely neglects to mention that Rayquaza is also a good Flying-type attacker. Does it render Dragonites with Hurricane obsolete? All three dragons are also Flying-type, so this matters. Their common double weakness to Ice also makes Dragonite with OR a better gym defender than Dragonite with DM or Salamence.

Hurricane Dragonite's main use is to anchor Machamp raids, in which role it was already repleacable with other options. I would say AS/AA Rayquaza is better since it's got almost as good DPS as Espeon, but is by no means a necessity over Hu Dragonite.
