Power up hatched Chansey or evolve to Blissey?

Yet another Chansey/Blissey question, I know. But I haven’t really found this answer and I have very limited experience using either of these two.

I have a hatched Chansey that is level 20 with IVs 13/13/11 and CP 806. I’m wondering if it’s better to power up this Chansey to a high level, or to evolve it and be stuck with a level 20 Blissey. Trainer level is 34, but I don’t have the candies to evolve and then power up Blissey. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Blissey is infinitely more time consuming to defeat than Chansey. I even save every wild Blissey regardless of IV as long as it's level 20 or higher. Chansey, despite her high HP, is much easier to beat then Blissey because even though their HP are similar (510 for Blissey/500 for Chansey), Chansey's defense is only 176 to Blissey's 229, so definitely evolve to Blissey. Chansey also does almost zero damage while Blissey's Zen Headbutt and Dazzling Gleam leave Machamp in bad shape by the time he beats her.

Blissey takes 50 seconds to kill with Machamp, Chansey takes 40. That's a difference, but it certainly doesn't take infinitely longer to kill.

I (oh so frustratingly) understand the benefit of of Blissey over Chansey. My problem is that I never see either to catch (hopefully the V-day event helps) and I won’t be walking for that many candies, so I’m contemplating a strong Chansey over a mediocre Blissey.

Assuming it both at full motivation. After few hours without feeding blissey will require only one defeat to be kicked out while chansey will still require three.

Well, before doing anything I would wait until the end of the V-day event; with any luck, you'll catch at least a few wild Chanseys and get some more candy.

Even without the event, I personally would wait until I had enough candies to evolve a Blissey AND get her to somewhere around lv.30. If you're not that patient, I'll say that a level 30 Chansey is a lot less intimidating than even a level 20 Blissey.

I hadn’t seen the V-day event until just after posting the question, actually. So I think I will definitely be waiting and hoping to pick up a few more Chanseys. Thanks for getting to the root of my question at the end there!

If you already have numerous Blissey, I'd bump up the Chansey. Only because the gyms always have a Blissey and normally it's put in first so you can't put in yours. I like having a couple strong Chanseys to build a gym that's going to annoy people.

That last bit is basically what I’m unabashedly going for, but I only have the one Chansey and zero Blisseys.

I expect most people have already evolved and powered up their good Chanseys, so it is worth holding on to one UNevolved to place in gyms.

Wait one day, it isn't clearly stated, but it looks like chansey spawn could be increased.

Chansey is better for long term defence, blissey is better for highly competitive areas and for holding gyms before raids. IMO chansey is decent even at lvl20 until you and your teammates going to build toughest gym to hold before ex-raid.

A level 20 Blissey is a better defender at full motivation than a level 30 Chansey. That said, the Chansey will keep its motivation much longer and can be slotted into gyms that already have a Blissey. So it comes down to what is valuable for your area.

To be honest, if you don't feel a desperate need for a gym defender, don't do anything with it yet. Wait until you have 100+ candy so you can evolve and power up, might get a better Chansey for it in the meantime.

Definitely a fan of being able to have both a Chansey and Blissey in the gym. However, around here (college campus) the 3,000+ CP factor doesn’t make much of a difference because there are constantly so many people that nothing will go un-attacked that long.

In high-turnover areas, Blissey is far superior, but a key factor is how often you take down gyms and slot in the first defender (as opposed to grabbing free slots when others take down gyms).

Both have uses. Like others have said, it depends on what you will primarily use them for. I have 2 1000ish cp Chansey that get dropped in gyms daily. Also have 3 Blissey that get dropped daily as well. The Blisseys go in high turnover gyms in the first slot. The Chanseys go in low turnover gyms or gyms with a Blissey already defending.

I have one of my Chanseys that is slotted first in a hard to get to gym. It gets one G-Razz a day and holds the line (and motivation!). The gym is near a red light at a busy highway. The light typically doesn't stay red long enough to beat the Chansey more than once for a driver-by. The only other way to get to the gym is to park in a private lot and walk about 50 yards. No one has been brave enough to do that. Or you could spoof, of course. She's been in there for 5.5 days now. Was in the gym for about 2 days prior to that. Gonna likely be an easy gold badge for me.
