Cloyster: Ice Shard or Frost Breath for attacker

I have an 87% Cloyster with Ice Shard/Blizzard, and I'm considering powering it up to 30 at least to use as a Dragonite counter since I have no Lapras. Which is the preferred fast attack for an attacker, Ice Shard or Frost Breath? IS/B and FB/B are both rated as "A" on this website for attackers, but I was curious if anyone knew any reason to prefer one over the other.

Basically: spend the dust/candy to power this mon up, or keep evolving until I get a good IV with FB/B?

EDIT: Thanks for the helpful input. Sounds like Frost Breath is better. I have a Cloyster with FB/B and IVs of 13/7/12 Att/Def/Sta, and an IS/B with 15/10/14. I just wish the move sets were swapped between the two of them.

I dont like Ice Shard for attacking cuz i dodge everything and its too slow, but in numbers its fine too. Ask yourself, if you like it and match with your style go ahead. I have a Lapras with Ice Shard/Blizzard and i only use him as a defender, but my Cloyster got FB/Blizzard and i love him to explode dragonites. Lapras can destroy them very very easily too though.

I haven't actually used it yet so thanks for the input. I like to dodge everything when I'm attacking, and it sounds like you're saying FB is better for dodging than IS? I guess this makes my choice harder now because I doubt I'll get a high IV FB/B Cloyster for quite a while. Maybe I'll just power it up anyways because it's better than what I have now which is zero good ice pokemon.

Well, you will need some adaptation, just use one IS and dodge, one IS and dodge...then all will be ok. In the other hand, with FB you can use 2 or 3 times and dodge safely. Anyway its a nice Pokémon!.

I would save the candy. I have one Cloyster with Frost Breath/Hydro Pump and two with Ice Shard/Blizzard. The latter moveset isn't the most efficient as you need to be able to dodge decently to compensate Cloyster's low stamina. I'm still chasing after FB/Blizz combo and I think you should too.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, haven't actually even tried using this Cloyster yet so I haven't used a single pokemon with either Ice Shard or Frost Breath. I do have a FB/Blizzard Cloyster but it's only 71% IV compared to the 87%, which is why I hesitated on powering one of them up without asking first.

I like to dodge everything while attacking so maybe the 71% vs 87% won't matter as much if I'm able to dodge better with the former.

Honestly i would power the 71.1% one till level 30 and wait for some Lapras or other Cloyster. Moveset its very important and this 16% IVs difference will not change much.

I'd agreed Frost Breath is way better, a lot quicker and easier to dodge with. Have a 96% IV one with FB/B and he totally destroys 2500+ Dragonites with ease (with dodging)

What CP is your Cloyster? (my 71% FB/B is at 1570 right now, but I have plenty of candy banked to power it up)

Cloyster is one of the few pokemons I have had luck with. I have three with FB/B and high IVs. After the CP changes, they do very well against dragaonites. The defensive buff makes a big difference because before they often wouldn't last a single battle if I missed a dodge.

I think you can get 2 Ice shards in with steel wing. I think. Might test that first. Against Dragon breath I would say Frost Breath, but I might go with Ice Shard against steel wing.

Yes thats correct, 2 ice shards per steel wing with successful dodges but only one shard on DB.

Anyone got any experience with Frost Breath for defence? The tables suggest Ice Shard is better, but I don't really want to invest dust in a second Cloyster if the difference is small.

I wouldn't invest on powering up a defensive Cloyster. His CP cap sits under 2500. He's a glass cannon, not a tank.

Id say try to find Sheldars over level 28-29 and use them as is(2kcp + as cloyster). If you have a selection target Sheldars with a high IV stat for Atk and most importantly HP. Frankly this mon is a bit fragile and although potion efficient is really only good for about 1.5 large Dragonites at best. Meanwhile my Lapras 2.4k FB/IB can take 3-4 large Dragonites alone. Eventually you will get a Lapras that may require a lot of dust to power up so I would sparingly power up a Cloyster.

The Ice Shard one, its IV is a lot higher than the FB, and can be used either offense or defense, leave the FB one to train.
