24 hours into Rayquaza, how many do you think you’ll end up catching?
Closer to 10 or closer to 30?

In order to get 5 of 20 I'll have to increase my catch rate a lot.
Today, 13 balls, going after a 2019 Ray, 2 misses, 2 normal hits, 2 nice, 6 great, and 1 excellent (last ball). All with curve balls and golden razzies. No catch. My calculations say that for my badge levels, this set of throws should have got me a catch 74.2% of the time, so if I throw like this four more times, I'll catch three. I can live with that.
But I'm 0/3 now. I know I'll get one eventually, but I don't need a ton, just want one or two with DT/O and one or two with AS/AA and good IVs (happy with mid 80's or better).
I prefer my Dragonites anyway, 96% and 98%. The good thing about getting a double flying Rayquaza is that I can CTM my 98% from Hurricane to Outrage, so they can really bring the pain. I'm looking forward to Latios - a dragon that isn't double weak to ice (wow!) That should be good, unless they nerf it.
So I'm looking on the low side, maybe 5. We'll see.

I wish the community event had come before Ray, so that I could improve my Dragon medal to improve my catch chance.
If only I had lived in an area that had dragon spawns, but as my area was relatively devoid of them, my badge is a lot lower than others who had access to regular Dratini.
Look at the odds. Select your level, and then select one level higher For an excellent throw with a curve and golden razzie, the catch chance going from silver to gold only goes up about 0.5%, from 15.10% to 15.65% (assuming your flying badge is already gold). So it helps a little, and every little bit helps, but it's not a huge swing, like going from nice (9.80%) to great (12.59%) or great to excellent (15.10%).
The lesson here is throw well, get at least great hits with every ball you can, and you'll do pretty well whether your dragon badge is Bronze, Silver, or Gold.
I'm in a Dragon poor area too. Two days ago, I evolved a Seadra to a Kingdra to get my badge to silver. Gold may come at the community event, we'll see.
When catching dual type Pokemon, you only need the gold medal for one of its types in order to benefit from the improved catch rate. You do not need the Dragon gold medal to receive the catch rate bonus on Rayquaza because he is Dragon/Flying and everyone has the Flying gold medal from catching thousands of Pidgies.
I am 6/9 on Rayquaza so far even though I'm a mediocre thrower who can't make Excellent throws AND I was stupid and tried Pinaping one of the three that ran on me.
I’m currently 5 for 9, but two of those were critical catches. I know it’s only day 2, but so far, this one is really irritating me. Unlike Kyogre, I can hit this one consistently. In back to back raids today, I got 10 balls, hit 8 and then 9 consecutive Excellent throws, and barely got a single wiggle on any. And I have the gold dragon badge. I mean, WTH?
I’m at 100/200 in my dragon quest, I guess another reason to do more of these (besides the other raid bosses being unimpressive and I’ve barely dented the 5mil from 39 to 40). I do think I started a bit better with Rayquaza bc I know I’ll get 40 or more chances to throw at it w/o driving/waiting 30-35 minutes a shot
Am I the only person here who thinks it's harder to catch than some of the others. It's like Ho-oh all over again. At one of the raids yesterday I was the only one to catch out of 9 people there.
Despite that, I'm 2 for three, including a 96% weather boosted beauty with DT/O. I doubt I'll catch anything better than that.
I reckon I'll finish with about 10 of them.
