Keep DP on SC Gengar?

Today I found my first Gengar in my Pokebox and (what I totally forgot) it has 2 legacy moves.
It's at level 20 with 14/12/10 and SC/DP.

Would you CTM DP to get SB and power it up to at least 30 or a BP nearby?

Dark Pulse is significantly lower damage due to base damage and lacking Stab. But it has the same cooldown as SB.
Since Gengar is the only viable Ghost Pokémon and yours has the best legacy move, yeah, get Shadow Ball and power up for Raids, somewhere around 2300 CP or any breakpoint in that CP area.

It has good IVs and SC. If you're interested in doing Alakazam raids I would for sure CTM it and power up to 30 or so. Going to be the best ghost type over gen 4 too, Chandelure in gen 5 is a long way off and isn't guaranteed to get a good double ghost moveset anyhow, so Gengar is quite a lasting investment.

>It has good IVs

There was a post on (I think) Reddit (I am having trouble finding it now) that said (IIRC) Gengar needs 15 def and 15 stm to hit certain defensive breakpoints against Mewtwo with Confusion in order to survive long enough to use Shadow Ball.

This would still be viable against Psycho Cut/Focus Blast, but the imperfect def and stm IVs might remove it from use against Confusion/Focus Blast.

Of course, that one Mewtwo moveset is a very niche use to power up a pokemon. Gengar as a generalist is also limited because the most common defenders are normal types. Maybe if OP is trying to solo Alakazam raids? Still a lot of stardust for something with limited use.

My lvl 38 gengar with 15-14-13 ADS gets of a SB without a problem. Almost beeing able to do a additional SB.

gengars greatness depends alot on it beeing able to survive long enough for getting of a SB. Still relevant around lvl 30-32 but at lvl 37+ that isn't a real issue, You will survive with okay IVs. 13/14 Stamina and defense are more than enough if you get it up above lvl 37.

Gengar can't learn Bullet Punch.

And Gengar can't learn Dynamic Punch, Dragon Pulse, or Drill Peck.

... but is that relevant? Abbreviations can have different meanings in different contexts. Although, that might be an argument for avoiding some abbreviations, especially for less common words or in a context that people might not immediately understand. But if your point is that the abbreviation is confusing, then you could just say that. :-)

I ran gengar with ADS stats of 14/12/10 with SC/SB against the mewtwo with C/SB.

At lvl 30 it could not get of a SB; average DPS
at lvl 35 it could not get of a SB; average DPS.

Got a bit annoyed so took straight up to lvl 38.

At lvl 38 it can get of a SB, increasing its DPS with 22% compared to the same stats at lvl 35.

So your gengar needs to be at a minimum lvl somewhere between 35-38

It is stats are good enough but a price of 150k-187k dust and 130-200 gengar candies. But great DPS against a lot of raids.
