A whole lotta Tyranitars (and questions)

So I've hardly ever done much with my Tyranitars except just keep them but now I received my first EX-Raid pass so I think it's time :-). I'm level 38 btw, can use fast and charge TM's and I have some stardust (700k) of which I can easily spend some.

When going through my list I have like 350 candies and the following Tyranitars:

L31,5 B/SE (15/14/12)
L30 B/C (14/15/13)
L25,5 B/C (12/15/15)
L25 B/SE (15/11/10)
L25 B/SE (10/12/15)

L20 B/C (14/11/15)
L20 B/F (14/12/14)
L20 B/F (10/15/15)
L20 B/SE (10/14/14)
L20 B/C (10/12/15)
L20 B/C (11/10/15)
L20 B/C (10/10/15)
L20 B/F (10/13/10)

Also I still have 4 L20 Larvitars all with 15 attack (going from 91% to 87%).

Where should I best put my candies in (in regards of Mewtwo)? Max out 2/3 of those Tyranitars to L40? Or instead bring 6/7 Tyranitars to L30? I also noticed that a large part of the Tyranitars have quite a "low" attack (10/11/12), is that an issue? Should I then maybe evolve one of the 15 attack Larvitars instead?

Then final question, should I look for any other pokemon to use against Mewtwo? I have a maxed out L40 Gengar, and can easily use or power up pinsir/scizor/houndoum/gardevoir/alakazam/... . Or will an army of Tyranitars do all the necessary damage?

I think bite has a low break point against Mewtwo, so you might want to check that first.
3 or 4 B/C at L30 or greater will probably be plenty.

hi, thanks for the good suggestion.

I looked it up and indeed the break point for bite is at L27,5 for 14/15 attack, for 10 attack it's at L28,5. So is that the only thing I should be looking at? Just power up a couple Tyranitars to L27,5 or L28,5? I should not look at defense or stamina stats? And it has no use to power up Tyranitars further (to L30 or L40) to last longer in the fight?

Now with weather boost available, do not waste stardust on maxing out a Pokémon unless you get a 96%+ IV Larvitar/Tyranitar. Having said that you should level up your level 31.5 and 30 and change SE to Crunch. How much you should level up depends on your other counters. You don’t want to put all your stardust into one basket in case it has focus blast which destroys ttar in one hit even if you dodge.

So you would only use 2 Tyranitars? And which other counters would do better damage then?

To economize on your candies, you might wanna read gamepress literature on breakpoints. It has a calculator where you can enter the info of the raid boss and the countering pokemon. I suspect you prolly only have to power up your tyranitars to lvl 38 for it to gain the next advantage in terms of the damage done to the raid boss. E.g. a tyranitar from between level 20 to 25 will inflict the same amt of damage on mewtwo but by powering up to 25.5, it gains an additional amt (just a hypothetical example)

Bite/Crunch are the most effective moveset combination followed by Bite/Stone Edge

Also if you find yourself having fewer tyranitars than you wish to include in your mewtwo raid party, you can always consider using dragonites (dragon tail/outrage) as good alternatives.

I would do the following:
CTM all L25+ Tyranitars to Crunch. If you think you're using too many, skip the L25 one with 10 attack. Expected cost: 4-6 CTM
Level up your L25 Tyranitars and the L20 14/11/15 to their Bite breakpoint. Cost: 19+18+26+46=109 candy, some stardust

This gets you a good team that should do great. If you still want to upgrade, first level everyone to 30, then I'd max the 31,5 Tyranitar or alternatively push 2-3 to level 35 or so. (Personally I think one maxed is preferable) You do get a relevant upgrade in survivability for leveling them higher but it might not matter if your raid group is large enough

Against Focus Blast, Tyranitars may get killed before launching a Crunch.

there's a 25% (2/8) chance the Mewtwo has Focus blast, right? So does this mean that if that is the case you should not use Tyranitars? And which other counters would you suggest then?

Pretty much anything that isn't bulky and resistant to fighting gets oneshot by Focus Blast. Tyranitar is a fine glass cannon in that case, high DPS but low survivability, which makes it like 4th or 5th best counter still.
Dragonite and Gary for survivability with decent DPS, or Lugia with extra survivability and low DPS.
