Fake humblebrag question: Should I fast-TM my 100% L35 Armaldo?

As the title implies, this is sort of a legit question, but I am mainly just showing this guy off. It was evolved from a perfect wild Anorith that was caught at L35, so zero stardust cost.

I figure as is (with fury cutter), he'll be able to spam STAB rock blasts at a very rapid rate as an attacker. But with struggle bug, he'd hit hard as a defender, and from a showing-off perspective, he's likely to be the best Armaldo people around here will see for a while.

So, keep fury cutter and use him as an attacker, or TM to struggle bug and show him off in gyms?

Attacker. With decay rate, nothing looks impressive in gyms other than maybe shiny Pokemon.

Nope, totally legit. I didn't even know it was perfect until I got home and was checking IV's and transferring extras. Out of 43,806 pokemon caught, I have 17 with 100% IV's, of which 11 were caught in the wild, and 6 hatched. To the best of my recollection, this is my second 100% IV pokemon caught wild at the maximum level, after a L30 100% Horsea (now Kingdra) that I caught in late 2016.

Oddly enough, I caught a 100% wild Gulpin on the very first day that pokemon was available, although it was at a slightly lower level (I think L27 or so).

My first Anorith last night was a lv30 82% wonder, very happy with it and I would do exactly the same (thinking about my rare candy). Struggle bug + Rock Blast should be nice. I have not seen an Anorith since...

There were lots of them in the suburban downtown area where I usually play, and I pinapped them all (including the perfect one, which I obviously wouldn't have done had I known), so I had more than enough candy to evolve him. This was in maybe 80-90 minutes of playing time.

I got a bunch of Arons too, and ended the evening with 89 candies, but no remarkable ones to evolve yet.

Awesome catch! And, I would definitely use it as an attacker more than a defender. Armaldo has pretty decent attack power, while his defensive and stamina prowess aren't as prominent. With motivation decay, his defensive capabilities are pretty lackluster. Armaldo's Rock Blast can be used to sweep Dragonite (and eventually Salamence). Plus, it might also be a good candidate as an attacker for upcoming Rayquaza raids. But, if you want to throw your Armaldo in gyms to spice up the gym scene a bit, by all means, do so!

Struggle Bug. Rock/Bug is a pretty solid typing combination, and Armaldo has absolutely no niche as an Attacker. Unfortunately, it goes completely screwed over with its moveset.

Yeah, I think your summary is pretty accurate. Fury cutter is sure fun to use, though. I wouldn't say its moveset is the problem as much as its typing.

I'd say the moveset is the bigger problem. Armaldo is a rock-type pokemon with 11 base attack more than Golem. With any decent double rock moveset it would be the new king of rock DPS by a small margin. The typing makes it glassier against many things rock counters, but DPS is the most important thing.

It's a rock/bug type. It has two pretty good STAB bug quick moves, and a pretty good STAB rock charge move. The problem is that there's no real synergy with that typing.

Examples of pokemon with bad movesets would be Aerodactyl (good typing, but no STAB quick move and only a crappy STAB charge move), Kabutops (one of numerous other pokemon that would be the new king of rock DPS if it had a decent rock quick move), and Kingler.

If you have fast TMs to spare, get Struggle Bug and place it in gyms for now. You can change it back later (assuming Fury Cutter isn't weirdly removed from its move pool).

I think I might try it out a few times as an attacker just for fun, and then do what you are suggesting. Maybe I'll give it a try in a solo Scyther raid, but ultimately, I agree it makes more sense as a defender.

We only get lileps in my area. It's the top spawn too, just after whismur.

Nooooo if PvP's mechanics end up being similar to the current ones for gym and raid battles in that they incorporate the swipe/dodge feature, fury cutter + rock blast may be d0pe (especially with such a short energy cost for rock blast, you could theoretically fire it off and then counter-switch if your opponent switches in a counter to armaldo once armaldo enters the battle)
