Absol Raid Fail

My wife and I (both Level 36) did an Absol raid and finished with about 10 seconds to spare. 11 out of the 12 pokemon we used between us were fighting types boosted by weather. A few days later we tried a non-weather-boosted Absol raid (joined by a Level 40 player who just showed up) and we could not beat it in multiple attempts--probably needed 5-10 seconds more each time. Does this make sense? I get why the two of us might not succeed without the weather boost, but with the addition of a Level 40 player?

Are you sure that he/she wan't using Blisseys or something else?

We didn't see a Blissey on the platform with us, but that would be the sort of thing that would give our result. Hard to believe you can get to Level 40 and not know the best counters for Absol, especially given the availability of information on sites like this one.

I’ve raided enough that honestly that’s not hard to believe at all. We have one level 40 who passes through the area that has powered up nothing for raids. Sits on 2.5mill in dust and we gift her mons at raids. She runs trash.

Depends how fast that player got to 40 plus what he/she has invested in.

Did they raid their way to 40 and have lots of empty stardust to power lots of Pokémon up?

Also they can be one of those players that has millions of stardust because they don’t power up past level 30.

"Also they can be one of those players that has millions of stardust because they don’t power up past level 30."

You don't need to power Machamps or Hariyamas past 30 to duo Absol.

I agree that Level 30 counters should be enough to double-team an Absol--ours were below this, but have since been beefed up to 30 in preparation for the next non-weather boosted raid.

It's hard to say--it almost seemed like we did not have three attacking but three showed on the roster. I expected even a mediocre set of counters amassed by a Level 40 player would be worth the 10-20 seconds we needed to finish the raid. This is a suburban/rural area without a ton of stops or gyms, so resources are scarce. Most players I know only have a surplus of 100k stardust, if that. Thanks, though!

I know the feeling. A while back, I tried to trio a Blastoise with 2 Level 40s. I was Level 37 at the time. We were very close. Then 2 more players showed up (both around the 20ish) and it seemed like we were closer with just us 3 than when we had 5 players .
Just depends what counters everyone is using and how high of a level each counter is.

Was it raining? Absol in the rain is a real threat. thunder and Megahorn pack a punch, especially so with a 20% boost. The one you failed probably had psycho cut too.

I imagine the one you duod was a double dark moveset. Machammps brush that damage off like nothing. Even with the change in moveset its surprising you couldn't three man it. Sorry for your loss!

It’s possible the lv40 wasn’t fighting, quitting to the lobby to conserve resources. But given that you tried multiple times, at some point you would think time becomes more important than revives/potions.

Another possibility is lag. In poor connection areas i’ve seen damage outputs vary by up to 25%.

Anyway I look at the DPS you and your wife are capable of you should have been fine even with the lv40 using only blissey. You are right to have your mind boggled.
