Lanturn (or Kyogre) for Kyogre raid?

Yeah, Lanturn has only 146 ATK which is too low for an attacker. But since Kyogre with blizzard threatens almost every Pokemon, I thought maybe Lanturn can be a tank counter for blizzard.

Thanks to its type, Lanturn can take both waterfall and blizzard well. Its DEF is not high but STA is pretty decent. Surely it's not Raikou, but I think when fighting against blizzard it can at least compete with stronger Pokemons. What do you think?

(If Lanturn has too low ATK, how about using Kyogre with Thunder against Kyogre itself? Thunder is not good electric type skill, but at least it is effective for water type.)

TBH, Ho-Oh or Lugia are way underrated tanks for Kyogre. My Lvl 25 77% Ho-Oh can tank about 6 Blizzards with good dodging. Although for Lugia I cannot say, I’ve heard he’s just as good as Ho-Oh. Most electric types would work better in place of Lanturn, even Meganium or Venasuar in my opinion are just as good. Lanturn really is just irrelevant with so many counters.

Lugia is weak to ice. Sorry. And remember i don't have Raikou, so my only tanker is Lanturn. The best bet would be Raikou, everything else is simply suboptimal. Jolteon is utterly useless because it gets killed instantly.

I mostly agree with your point. Lanturn is useless in almost every situation. I was just wondering that maybe it could have a chance against blizzard which other electric, grass types cannot bare.

It's low attack somewhat negates it's resistance in terms of it's total damage output.

A Pokemon with better offensive ability would deal a similar amount of total damage as a Lanturn but do it in a shorter amount of time, effectively giving you more time to deal more damage with another Pokemon.

Tank counters are unnecessary when damage bonus is retained upon rejoining. Sure you could get through Blizzard Kyogre with only 3-4 Blisseys or you could go through 9-10 Pokemon that actually deal damage and therefore get an extra damage ball or two.

And by "tanks" I mean Pokemon that have low offensive ability and high survivability that only exist to soak damage, not Pokemon that have high survivability and also respectable DPS (e.g. Solar Beam Ho-oh vs Solar Beam Groudon, Lugia vs Machamp etc)

Personally, I'd trade 5+ revives and a few potions for an extra premier ball any day.

To me, Lanturn is a very valuable Pokemon for raids. Sure, it's ATK isn't the best but it's a great tank that is very resistant to many of the legendary bosses AND deals electric damage which hurts said bosses pretty well (water damage too but I prefer electric). Plus, for people like me who suck at dodging it's a blessing. Raikou is nice but hard to level and still gets Hydro Pumped hard in the face. Lanturn can survive two Pumps and deal electric damage in return.
Against the legendary birds my Lanturns worked amazingly well, against the dogs they were pretty useful too. Still think this Pokemon is highly underrated.

Interesting to get downvoted for liking a 'different' Pokemon.
1. Some Pokemon may be great for raids, that's no reason no never use another (and actually decent) one
2. Some Pokemon are indeed severely underrated, simply because they have low max CP; it's all about using the right types

Why not try out something else? Plenty of good stuff out there that's being completely overlooked because 'others are better'

Kyogre with thunder, at least to me, seems like a solid option. If only abilities were in the game and water absorb / volt absorb lanturn was a thing...but then water absorb vaporeon would also be a thing :3

also that username is tiiight

Check out this site’s recent update regarding S2 cells; I was able to use the tool they provide to break my local area down into visible areas and then found slices that had some green patches which may serve as parks (one of which was recently an ex raid-it was cool being able to make a prediction and see it come through. Unfortunately I have not able to raid there recently)

If you do go this route thro Thank using one of the links the guide offers, change the min and options to both “12” (the first two of the three level options)

Surprisingly, it seems to actually be very ok against Blizzard Kyogre, sporting 7th highest TDO at L30 and L35. It's very similar to a same level Lugia in both DPS and TDO, while Ho-Oh and Raikou are strictly better and at higher levels Groudon gets almost as good TDO while also being a top 5 DPS counter.

If you aren't limited heavily by healing items it's better to go in first with a team of glass cannons with multi-bar charge moves. Grass types with Leaf Blade are ideal and multi-bar electric types are great too since they tend to have pretty good energy gain.
