How does Niantic expect us to find these things without third party scanners? I don't mind them being so rare because that's the point but they're nearly impossible without scanners and/or spoofing.
That being said let's see some Unown dex.
12 unown, which of 9 from event.
Letters outside the unown events:
- x; was at a raid way before the unown events began when someone called an unown and I had the opprtunity to drive with someone and catch my first ever unown
- j; someone informed me and offered me the opportunity to go with him
- v; the only one I caught myself when someone informed the group in the middle of the night
Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that others got their information by mapping.
I have one C-Unown from 2016, which someone called in the WhatsApp group I was in at that time. Had to get out of bed, dress, and rush into to winter night to catch it with 20 seconds left on the clock. :-) Five more from the EUROPe event. And I think, this is what Niantic is using them for - spicing up events. Which is fine by me.
I think you just have to stumble upon them.
After seeing your post, I checked out the log of the website that maps my metropolitan area. There were 27 unown spawns in that large area over the past month (a little less than one a day). None of these spawns were near where I live or work, so I wouldn't have even been in the position to randomly encounter one. The spawns only lasted 30 minutes, so most I would not be able to reach in time even if I was on top of things. Furthermore, 13 of those 27 unown spawns occurred between midnight and 7 AM.
So even if I was hellbent on catching one, and monitoring a tracker site at all times, there might be not even be one a month that I was awake for and that I could reasonably get to before the time ran out.
