Kyogre without Dragon tail - yay or nay??

I just heard that Kyogre has lost Dragon tail as its fast move.

What do you think?? Like or dislike?

I can't post the source as it seems overloaded, but apparently kyogre only comes with waterfall now.

If Pokemon Go wants to remain analogue to the original series, it's a good move. Kyogre was never meant to learn Dragon tail in the first place (AFAI read, didn't look it up)

It means that I can use my dragonites 2/3 of the time now

I do wish though they gave it a different quick move in edition. Not sure what else it learns in main games, but I don't like the boringness of the 1 quick move only types

The water fast move makes Groudon more vulnerable. I was gonna try to pinpoint the Dragontail/thunder ones and get some others that have a lot of boosted SoB Groudons plus a few Raikous--especially during clear weather, we have long stretches of sunny some times

It looks like Kyogre has access to:
- hidden power
- mud slap
- rock smash

i'd much rather see it with 2 quick moves - dt is a great move with great neutral coverage but i wouldn't much care if it had something else generalist as a second option

Good change. Can't learn it in main series in any generation or through any method and adds more diversity, since DT/B was going to be one of the best Rayquaza slayers, and it was already slated to be the best water type attacker, it doesn't need to be the best (or near best) at another niche too, especially when it's only there because of it's high base stats.

I thought it was a placeholder when I learned it had access to dragon tail, originally. Would you prefer it to only have waterfall as its quick move or would you prefer a second option? Unfortunately as of right now it doesn't look like it can learn many other fast moves that are currently available apart from
- hidden power,
- mud slap,
- rock smash

I could see them giving it mud slap as it would mess with thunder types although I would not like it to run that as my moveset

I think Hidden Power would be a good second move. Unlike Suicune, Kyogre will have a good STAB move to fall back on if it doesn't get a good Hidden Power and it makes attacking into it more of a challenge (or at least not as mindless) as there's more possibilities.

Giving Dragon Tail to all the new Gen 3 legendaries (and/or most of the Dragons) to make them better on defence is just not good for the game in the long run.

More move diversity is a good thing so I don't understand why some of the old moves are being phased out, especially dodge friendly moves such as Bug Bite and Dragon Breath. No Gen 3 last stage evolution learns Bug Bite, and only Altaria (which is useless because of it's stats), Latios and Latias learn Dragon Breath.

There has to be some deliberateness to this when some of the lower stage evolutions learn these moves but last stages are mostly these slow but high damage moves.

My thoughts exactly regarding the general distribution of moves-metagross immediately comes to mind. And good point regarding suicune/kyogre's hidden power/STAB fast move situation.

I'm glad they removed dragon tail and by doing so are sticking with moves that pokemon can only learn from the series.

I think we can all agree we are not about to see it gain rock smash

In the current Gen7 learnset, Hidden Power (blech) is the only other move that Kyogre can learn that corresponds with a Pokemon Go fast move.

If they are more flexible though and go with something from previous generations, that can open up two more options:

Rock Smash - Neutral against some counters, but resisted by several more.

Mud-Slap - Still resisted by several counters, but super effective against the top counter. I think this would be a good choice from a game design perspective.

With dragontail and blizzard kyogre would be rayquaza Counter no 1.

I am not very familiar with the main series but in my opinion Kyogre should not have access to double water moves. The same applies for Rayquaza with DT / OR.
Please don't make our Gyaradoses and Dragonites completely useless.
Especially as those Legendaries are so easy to obtain compared to Dragonites.

If it gets Hidden Power it's the end of the world!
