Ho-Oh worth it?

Best Ho-Oh was a 2199 (91%) with 14 attack and defense. Obviously I would have liked a better one but I really stopped caring and holding out for higher ones. These days I just consider myself fortunate to have one over 90%.

That being said, I am considering taking this one to at least level 30 and possibly higher. It has extrasensory/ solar beam. I hear he is going to be quite good against Kyogre. Does anybody have any raid experiences with Ho-Oh? How does it perform overall and is it a worthy investment at this point in the game.

I'm not sure about powering up a Ho-Oh at this particular moment. There are better fire type attackers, and I'm not sure that he will be that good against Kyogre (HP and Thunder will destroy him, and he'll take neutral dmg from Blizz).

I'd say just to keep it ofc, but don't waste your dust/candies on him.

I wasn't necessarily looking for a fire type attacker. I'm trying to build a raid team to fight Kyogre and Ho-Oh is in the top 10 attackers for him. You make a great point with Kyogres charge moves potentially being a problem but I feel like Ho-Oh would still do okay against him. Jolteon and Sceptile are also considered to be possibly good at fighting him but they seem way too squishy.

I at least got 3 boosted Groudons and I've made sure they have solar beam...other than that Raikou at 3114 and another at 2899. I discovered Mewtwo is "good" compared to how bad other things are against Blizzard, have a 3314 and 3325 of those. I have a 2955 TB Zapdos, 2450 Discharge Jolteon...just gonna throw things out there that have an effective multibar move...and save potions for the steamroll

Yes, Ho-Oh will probably do okay against Kyogre. But so would Exeggutor. No, strike that, Exeggutor will do very well against Kyogre with Hydro Pump, and with Thunder. He'll struggle against Blizzard, though. Raikou, Zapdos, and Jolteon will do fine against Blizzard, as will Machamp, Hariyama, and Poliwrath (resists ice and water).

I suppose the bottom line is do you want to invest rare candy into a mon that will just do okay against Kyogre, or do you want to invest in something that will crush it. I'd go for the latter.

Solar Beam Groudon will crush DT/T Kyogre, and will do really well against WF/T Kyogre. Exeggutor and Dragonite will do well against any moveset without Blizzard, so I'd be worrying about something to handle Blizzard. Steel is good, but there aren't any strong steel mon right now. And that leaves Fire. I'd go with Entei personally, if that's the route you choose.

But spending a decent amount of dust and rare candy on something that might do 'okay' in a very specific role doesn't make too much sense.

Ho-oh won't be good against Kyogre in my opinion. It lacks in DPS and has no matchups where it is really strong - doesn't resist any moves, only one matchup out of 6 where it doesn't take super effective damage.

Groudon gets away because it's Solar Beam is stronger than Ho-oh's and Mud Slap will put out more damage than Extrasensory, plus has slightly better typing - weak to Waterfall and 2 charge moves like Ho-oh but double resists Thunder. Not sure what metric you're using where Ho-oh is in the top 10 of attackers.

If it's something that you're just going to take to 30 so that it's usable and not something that you're going to max out, you're better off using an equal amount of candies and stardust on a mediocre Raikou. Ho-oh's not something you'd want maxed anyway due to it's awkward moveset.

I was going off that Pokemon Go Hub site that lists counters for raid bosses. I'd love to power a Groudon but we still have almost 2 weeks of him and I could get a better one that what I have (91%). I also already have a maxed out Raikou. I'd just like some variety for a raid team.

I just got a better idea for me though, I kept 13 Raikou...ah, running all them out there (except the Thunders) in set parties might survive and damage better than other options...still looking at it***itll be okay in some spots, but WC is so much better than TB

Hes decent for being a tank with decent damage. Not the best but a good anchor. Outside of raids he does well as a gym attacker as hes very potion efficient

I recently brought a 15a/15/14 to lv40 and here are my thoughts (while using it in groudon raids, I’m running SW+SoB, SW for the shorter cooldown):

- it doesn’t put out damage that quickly compared to more viable options against groudon

- it’s helllla tanky; but that’s also because it resists/Double resists all of groudon attacks except dragon tail

If you’re planning on using it against Kyogre, I’d refrain. Like others have said, DT+Blizzard would be the only moveset where it doesn’t take super effective damage. It has been convenient to have against groudon but if your plan is for kyogre, I would refrain

I powered up my Extrasensory/Brave Bird Ho-Oh for soloing Machamp with Heavy Slam and he's awesome for that, but Raikou is the best Kyogre counter.

Also, if you have a high level Raikou (or two) practice leaving the battle and max reviving them and jumping back in. Not sure which current boss you might practice that with, you might have 4 to 6 Gyarados and get no benefit from healthing your supreme counter

I Have 2 maxed out oh-ho. They are pretty good. Especially tanky while doing good damage. You cant go wrong with those stats.

ES and BB Ho-Oh sees both moves boosted by wind, so he makes a great attacker in that scenario while also being good vs Machamp and a potion efficient gym attacker or anchor.
