It will be 100% useless.

With the highest base attack of all water mons, and the best water type moveset, how is Sharpedo useless?

Which kind of egg did you hatch Carvanha from? As far as Sharpedo's usefulness goes, his stats would probably make him a super glass cannon. He has an amazing base ATK stat, despite his other poor stats.

Lack enough attack stat combined with Bite/waterfall; will not cut it as a glass cannon.

Considering Vaporeon's and Gyarados' Atk stats (205 & 237) and much better DEF/STA stats and given they are everywhere I don't see a need for a cannon glass Sharpedo.

Useless as a dark type attacker, as Tyranitar has the same moveset but much better stats. Even in cases where Tyranitar is weak to a type that Sharpedo isn't, Tyranitar still has better survivability because of it's higher stats.

Even if it were the case that Sharpedo's attack or moveset was better than Tyranitar's, any damage gain would be marginal because of it's low survivability and if you end up rejoining a raid you probably end up doing less damage overall.

As a water type attacker the same idea applies. Sure it's got slightly higher attack than Gyarados but it's low survivability means you won't get many Hydro Pumps off before fainting, especially when Waterfall has low energy gain.

In the real pokemon games sharpedo has an ability that causes attackers to lose health when they hit it. Which is sorta cool and helps its status as a glass cannon

Alas, GO is far too simplistic for such things.

Rough Skin, if I remember the name of it correctly. Abilities would've been a cool addition, but not with the gym system we have now.

Some abilities would work in the current battle system. Truant for example is workable (make Slaking twice as slow as attacking.) A ability like thick fat that reduces damage is workable aswell. Rough skin can be adjusted so each hit Sharpedo takes does a bit of damage to the other pokemon.

This would actually bring a tiny bit of strategy to GO.

Agreed. Abilities (like the ones you mentioned) that have an effect on stats would probably work. Other abilities, like Pressure or Intimidate, would probably not, unfortunately.

It's good if you're short of optimal Dark or Water-type attackers. If you're able to assemble large raid groups where you live, catching a level 20 Tyranitar or Kyogre will serve you better.

If you are level 39, I'd assume you have other viable Pokemon for water and dark. Yet, the higher attack stat might make a difference in a few cases. It was my second maxed out shadow claw Gengar that first made the difference for me in Alakazam solo raids. If you are well situated otherwise, I'd max it out.
