Mewtwo power up?

I was finally lucky enough to get a Mewtwo. It's 2230 (82% IV) with 15 attack. It's not really the best Mewtwo but I'm very happy to finally catch one. That being said, I have no idea when I may be able to catch another one. Legendary Pokemon require an enormous amount of resources to max. I was wondering if this Mewtwo is worth powering up? Or should I wait for another Mewtwo? At the end of the day it's only 82% IV but it's still a Mewtwo.

1. Congrats.
2. Absolutely power it up. Worst case IF you get another invitation and IF you catch it and IF it has higher IVs is you’ll then have 2 awesome mon. Mine is 82%, and I took it to 40 with no regrets at all.

Edit: I also took my 2nd Mewtwo to 40 as well, and it's a 76%. I have not received an invitation since, nor do I expect one anytime soon given Niantic's recent direction of inviting mostly casual, low-level players over those at higher levels who raid a lot.

Nice man! That's a beautiful looking mon! How does he perform overall? I think mine would be very similar cp to that one. I have thought about how circumstantial getting another raid invite and happening to catch one much better than mine was. I want to be patient but at the same time I feel like I am missing an important aspect of the game.

It performs beautifully. I use it as the lead mon on my gym attack party because all gyms in my area are generally loaded with normal types (Blissey, Chansey, Snorlax, and Ursaring to name a few with Slaking soon to come). I think it passed 1k battles won today. My other one has SB (considered the best move by most), and I use it far less because of all the aforementioned normal types in my local gym scene. But I do use it in raids as a generalist.

Yeah I think they are probably worth leveling just because of how high the attack stat is and how random ex raids are in general. I think mine has psycho cut/psychic, so I would probably need to use a charged TM. I also think you responded on one of my previous threads about my 91% Raikou. I ended up powering it up all the way and I have been loving him in gyms! It was a great call!

Both of mine came with Psychic, and I used a Charge TM on them. I got lucky, though, in that I got FB and SB each on the first try. Good luck!

Glad you're loving your Raikou. I responded on another thread today with my top 5 favorite attackers, and Raikou is easily top 3. Some days, especially when I come across a gym loaded with water or flying types, it shoots to number 1. It's also been a VIP in a lot of past raids (Suicune and Ho-oh) and will be back at the top for Kyogre. :)

That is a nice looking Mewtwo.

How is Confusion working for you? I have Psycho Cut on mine and I like it, but is thinking about switching to Confusion to try it out.

I really like the power of Confusion, but it is really slow and makes dodging more difficult. I’ve wondered if I would like PC better but have never bothered to change it. Maybe I’ll give it a test drive tonight.

That is a good Mewtwo. I have a 12/12/10 and a 13/12/10 PC/SB and C/SB. I have no problems keeping them at 30 where they currently are. Power it up b/c you are supposed to (if you have the resources). I still think Mewtwo needs some time to become its full awesome self though

Congratulations!

I would say that it is worth powering up (it costs alot, but fuck it). I was lucky enough to get a 91% one awhile back and I have now powered it up to lvl 40 and it is really strong.
It has Psycho Cut/Focus Blast and not only is it lethal against Tyranitar, Blissey, Chansey and Snorlax (popular gym defenders), it also does a decent amount of damage against others as well.
After going through a gym once I can do the final two rounds with just a Mewtwo.

So, yes, it is worth powering up.

As for waiting to get a better one: Sure, if you do a lot of raids at places that are most likely to get EX raids, you might get another shot at a Mewtwo in the future, but it seems that even people who raid alot have problems getting a pass.
I've had my Mewtwo for two months and haven't been invited to another EX raid yet. And if Niantic really is giving people who hasn't had an EX raid a chance ahead of people who've already done one, it feels like we might not get invited to one any time soon.
I hope I'm wrong though ;)

I caught my first today. It’s 91 IV with C/SB. That’s apparently the best move set, but I’m curious about Focus Blast after your comments. Do you think it’s worth a Charge TM?

It has 15 attack.

The way I see it, C/SB gives Mewtwo the best generalist DPS and Psychic DPS. With Focus Blast, it doesn't gain the best Fighting DPS, but it does gain the highest current Duel Ability against Blissey (Since it resists Zen Headbutt, Psychic, and doesn't take extra damage from Dazzling Gleam).

I think it's Shadow Ball role is more important, as it entirely blows away any other psychic types (and almost all others for that matter), whereas, with Focus Blast, it rivals Machamp and exceeds it in certain ways. I'm giving my second Mewtwo Focus Blast but was sure to give my first (at the time possibly only) Shadow Ball.

Plus, come on it's Mewtwo's favorite move. Watch the movies and play the games.

Many times it takes 3+ charged TMs to get what you "want". Good chance you wouldn't want Focus blast when you got it. Gengars are dime a dozen, get a few of those that have FB

Nobody that cares to put a Blissey in around here has one with a Psychic charge move. ZH, sure you'll see that 60% of the time. I have 25 Machamps, 17 with DP and 8 with CC. Mewtwo FB won't be part of my squad.

Mewtwo is great if you're running low on potions, and it still makes incredibly good time. It's a great asset to a team, but I think a Shadow Ball Mewtwo has more merit.

In the summer I was one of the few that thought focus blast would be awesome for Mewtwo...C/FB Alakazam turned my Tyranitar army to dust and Dragonite/Gyarados weren't very good against it either. I just changed my mind when I experienced Mewtwo with Focus Blast, plus I'd like to hear even one scenario when it would make a raid B team

Congratulations on getting Mewtwo :)

I would probably keep C/SB for now. Try it out for awhile until you know exactly what you want to use it as. I think SB is better generally and it's also more useful in raids. Focus Blast is better when fighting Blisseys and such in gyms (and Tyranitar in raids), but most people have atleast one good Machamp that can do a great job against Blissey as well.

And let's not forget that as Mewtwo has four charge moves it can get, you might end up using quite a few TMs before getting what you want.

I'd like to try my Mewtwo with Shadow Ball, but I'm afraid that I'll end up using like 10-15 TMs before getting it and if I change my mind and want Focus Blast instead, well......damn.

Mewtwo is so rare that ivs are less important.
Mine is 93% with shb, but i would max a 69%. Less than 1% has a mewtwo here and it performs well

Yeah man, 15 attack on Mewtwo can be super hard to get. I finally got one of mine 15 attack at 84% and powered/TMed it, 0 regrets at all.

Power it up for sure.

When a Mewtwo is outdamaging others with neutral damage and only has STAB on it's quick move, while they have super effective and STAB damage on both you know it's a good Pokemon.

Even 10 in all IV Mewtwos are worth powering and yours has 15 attack so it's not going to have a significant difference in performance compared to a perfect one because there aren't any quick move breakpoints it won't reach which is what makes the biggest difference when comparing sub-perfect IV Pokemon to perfect ones of the same level.

It's a 2-4 difference in HP when maxed depending on the IV (10-12) and in terms of defensive breakpoints none are significant because Mewtwo is useful against so many bosses that you can't account for all of them, plus it's tanky enough that it's survivability more or less comes down to how lucky you are with the boss' charge move usage rather than it's IVs which will make a bigger difference in the TDO of your Mewtwo rather than it's defensive IVs.

I maxed my 76% they are too hard to get and the battle performance between it and a perfect is negligible. Yours even has perfect attack stat so it does max dmg possible you would disrespect your Pokémon by not using him.

I have 2 mewtwos, 1 with 91 IV and power it up too level 35 (my level), but yesterday i caught the 2nd with 76 IV (12 -10-12). Did i power it up too or is not worth?

I would wait til after Kyogre appears and leaves to invest in a 2nd/lesser Mewtwo. I think Kyogre will be very tough to beat and even those that drive around town all day doing legendary raids will have a tough time getting enough of them.

Kyogre will be very tough to beat, and it will also be arguably the best current Legendary. Focus on the one Mewtwo right now, power it up to a point where you can use it against it (since not everyone has 6 Raikou). If you're level 35, you should be able to take your 91% Mewtwo to level 37.
