Are there any Pokemon with solid base stats but outclassed into oblivion?

I guess Arcanine.
Are there any others?

The meta has no room for Poison-types like Muk and the Nidos.

Jolteon has been outclassed by the legendaries.

But at least Jolteon can be obtained at high levels with no stardust investment, unlike the legendaries.

Not everyone has them, especially when they joined after the legendaries are released.

I've always thought that poison should have been strong against normal and fighting.

I've always thought that Psychic should've been weak to Poison and not the other way round. Especially with Psychic being so blatantly overpowered in Gen 1 that they had to make a new type just for countering it in Gen 2.

But then poison would have only one weakness, to ground. That's why the new types added were a necessity, for balance. If they had only switched things around, it wouldn't be balanced. Psychic's OP factor was mitigated by the introduction of dark, and dragon's OP factor was mitigated by fairy. Steel affected both, being resistant to those types (and also dark), and immune to poison, while not super effective against them (but it and poison are effective against fairy, keeping any one type from being too OP).

And really it was less that psychic type itself was overpowered, and more that Special Attack and Special Defense didn't exist and were both calculated from the singular Special stat, making mons like Alakazam (with its also very high speed) ridiculously OP.

Pretty much all the mega mons like Machamp and Articuno. I used to love using my Wigglytuffs prestiging against a line up of Dragonites it is a really buff mon but with the gym rework all my prestige mons are pointless :(

Are you being stupid on purpose? What DOESN'T outclass Wigglytuff? Fairy are useless? So there aren't Dragon types in the meta?

Maybe Donphan. Don't really hear much talk about him.

For real my heart broke when i noticed Donphan didn't get a ground fast move...

Rhydon (Groudon), Espeon and Alakazam (Mewtwo).

Don't compare anything with Mewtwo because 80% of players do not have it unlike any other legendary.

To be honest, assuming even 20% of players have a Mewtwo is pretty generous. Real number is probably much smaller.

And quite a few players don't have a lot of (or any) other legendaries. Not everyone lives in or near a city where t5 raids are possible or realistic.

1: What percentage of players have a Mewtwo?
2: Of those who have Mewtwo, how many do they have?

Alakazam are definitely still useful for some Tier 3 solos. Mewtwos are unique in that you only need one to really turn the tide, and double as fantastic generalists. Alakazam have high DPS, but are too frail to be considered a decent generalist.

Slaking would be the obvious example...

Slaking's legendary-exceeding statline always came with a drawback that made it completely obsolete in the original games. While it's true that it has good stats and is hampered by its moves, that's how it should be.
