Who is like me with a true 0% capture rate on Legendaries?

Pretty much the title. I own not a single copy of any Legendaries and it is particularly infuriating due to the time-sensitivite nature of them.

With Ho-oh being done as of midnight last night, I fall into the same old “I can’t compete and hold a gym for 5 minutes, let alone take one” (barring coincidental other Instinct players helping which is very rare).

And then there’s my friend who got an EX raid pass for Mewtwo last week that is debatable if he can even make it (work exam).

I just feel like it’s utterly pointless to play due to everything being out of my league and my garbage RNG dictating I’m not allowed to have ANYTHING nice or fill out my Pokédex.

I am level 24 and the grind is only made 100x worse by all these other factors.

I’d like to feel better even having ONE legendary and at this point I don’t even care if the stats are the worst possible.

I don't even have a dex image of a legendary. Could be worse.

Ho-oh was extended by 2 days by the way, so you have until the end of Thursday. Plus how many legendary raids have you completed for context? You could've just done one for all we know, I'm sure there are lots of people with 0% capture rates who have done hardly any 5* raids.

I've never actually raided a legendary. I went to 1 Articuno, 3 Lugia, 2 Moltres, 4 Zapdos, 3 Entei, 6 Raikou, 1 Suicine, and 3 Ho oh and never once did anyone else show and I live in a major city. I do not particularly care, I enjoy playing mostly on the bus and when I am in different cities. It would've been nice to have gotten a few though.

We need some more context. How many legendary raids have you done? How many balls do you usually get? How many of those are actually hits? Do you throw curveballs? Do you always use golden razberries? Do you manage to get great or excellent throws? Also, you speak of grinding, but you are level 24. So how much grinding have you really done?

I have went to over 200 combined legendary raids (the first 80 or so either I’d fail to down them or I’d be booted due to a crash), I typically get 11 or 12 balls, I don’t miss and routinely get great and excellent curveballs about 60% of the time.

I don’t have data so my friend tethers me whenever we have the free time to go out. A typical walk on non-raid expeditions has us out 2 to3 hours every other day. Unfortunately, Poke-Stops around here aren’t that terribly common so balls are very easy to run out of.

The chance of catching a legendary raidboss is 2-3%. Assume 2% (no bonuses, GR, curve etc.). You state that every raid you get at least 11 balls. Assume 10. That is 98% of not catching the raidboss or 0,98.

0,98^10= 0,81707281. About ~18,3% of catching the raidboss.

You stated that you did over 200 legendary raids.

0,81707281^200= 0.000000000000000002832

This means that you have a chance of over 99,99999% of catching at least one raidboss.

It seems EXTREMELY unlikely that this has happened. I would seriously go crazy if this happened to me. Pray more to RNGesus and hope your prayers will be heared.

How you managed to get at least 1,200,00 xp solely from legendary raids, and still remain lvl24? ?

About half were incompleted and in my blind annoyance when I originally responded I may have accidentally included regular raids as part of that number which were hit or miss.

I’m sorry to be confusing some of you with poor information. I’m not in a particularly good spot in life and Pokémon Go is my little escape from reality about things I have no control over and when THAT feels like as much a waste of time as everything else, it’s hard thinking straight.

I don't mean this to be condescending, but most people on this forum would consider level 24 to be a fairly new player. To put it in perspective, it takes a total of 710,000 XP to get from level 1 to level 25. It takes 2,000,000 to get to level 30, and 6,000,000 to get to level 35, and many players who visit this site are level 35 or higher. My daughter started her own account when Gen 2 was released, and she was level 21 by the end of the first weekend (although she had been playing with me for a while, so she knew how to quickly level up by maximizing XP with lucky eggs, etc.).

Maybe you don't have time to play any more than you already do, but you can probably play smarter. Read all the guides on this site, and try to read the Q & A's. Learn which pokemon are the most useful to invest candy and stardust into, so that you can use them to attack gyms and raid bosses more effectively. Use a platform such as discord to coordinate with other higher-level players, and piggyback off of their experience.

And learn to throw curveballs to increase your chance of catching pokemon.

I'm sure there will be opportunities in the future to obtain all the legendaries, for people who missed them the first time. Keep at it, and don't get discouraged. Set small goals, and try to learn as you go. Even those of us who are past level 35 still have things to learn about the game, especially because it is always changing.

Early on, I didn't have a raid group. Got lucky and stumbled into a group of almost 20 doing a Zapdos in the first minutes after it came out. Caught it, but it has crappy IVs (10s/10a/12d) and Thunder.

Hooked up with a raid group in late October. Did two Raikou raids, caught neither of them. Did 7 Entei raids, caught two, both with solid IVs. Tm'd both to FS/OH (would have settled with FT, but got OH). Caught 3 suicunes.

And now Ho-Oh is almost gone. I've caught 8/9, and have some solid choices. Yes, that means that I've got more Ho-Ohs than all other legendaries combined. But I still don't have one with Brave Bird, ....

Raiding is like anything else. It takes some time, practice, and repetition. Get into a raid group, devote some time to going to raids, and it will eventually happen for you too.

The other thing is that in these games, if the newest mon aren't as strong as the older ones, the game starts to stagnate. So if you missed out on the legendary birds and beasts, rest assured that whatever comes later will be stronger, and you'll be competitive in a different way. Groudon and Kyogre and Rayquaza look like total monsters that could disbalance the game. We'll see how they look when they come out. Salamance with Draco Meteor looks very fun. Gardevoir, Metagross, there will always be something to catch, something to do, some new challenge. Enjoy the ride.

As being level 24, youre still a pretty newer player, xp wise anyway. You seem to be a bit more casual than most. I can be wrong and i apologize if it seems rude to come off this way, but you also need to put other factors into your gameplay. How many raids have you completed of 5* and how many balls do you get per raid? are you connecting with your thrown balls or do they keep getting batted away and dodged?I dont want to make any assumptions of how you are as a player when it comes to throwing. I personally have at least a 95% hit rate when i throw my ball. I suggest just to be patient, practice your curve ball at the end of their attack animation, and try learning the circle size trick if you havent already.
Dont let something like raids discourage you from playing the game if you actually do enjoy it. I can understand your frustrations though, i would be very upset as well. Just try to keep an eye out and join a local raid group if you have one. That way you can be more sure to successfully have a group at a desired raid. Im sorry about your frustrations, but good luck in the future.

I've had good luck/bad luck on my Ho-Oh raids. I've caught 7 of them, only one with 82% IV and one more with 80 IV, the rest in the 70s. Two of them on level 25. And none with E/BB, which is what I was hoping for Machamp solo. Oh well....

U gotta be trolling 100 percent. 200 legendary raids....that's 2 mil xp no lucky egg. That's level 30 plus.... if u are in a raid and u crash u still get xp and items even if group beats it and raid timer expired. Level 24 with 200 raid or 80 passed raids. That's still 800k xp.... can not be level 24... with rng u would of been able to catch a legendary with first ball no curve no throw bonus no golden with 80 raids. Can you show us ur legendary raid badge and regular raid badge. Sorry if I'm coming off rude but it just feels like u are trolling. The grind hasn't even started yet for you truthfully. Level 37 is only half way to 40. The way you posted kinda comes off rude to the actual trainers who grinded everyday for months or year plus. Nothing is out of ur league, u just gotta keep at it and not give up. Not everything should be handed down to people... Oh hey here is a free tyranitar no walking or evolve needed. First ball catch straight throw no berries. What would be the point if everything was just handed out to us. Many of us grinded hard for what we have even with all the mishaps along the way. There are rural players here on gamepress who are 40 who are dedicated enough to go raid legendaries in another city. Seems like u have time to play since u raided 200 times. Maybe ask other trainers to catch it for you. Maybe join a Facebook group or discord group to raid with fellow team members and ask for help. There are many things u can do to make ur chance higher catching a legendary. Giving up is not one of them. Niantic made this game a lot easier for casuals to have fun and less grinding. Pokemon found 5 levels above ur trainer level maxed at 35. Extra stardust for weather buffed pokemons. More golden berries for raids to be able to use golden every throw pretty much. Sorry about my rant people. Tldr - game is easier for newer players and casuals. Don't give up. If u want it keep trying.

I couldn't have said it better. I'm level 39, played for > 1 year, and have exactly one legendary, Suicune.... out of only two t5 raids, caught with the first ball. Something just doesn't add up here.
