Eh. I like this in theory - particularly the Weather aspect. And while I'd like to go back to the old gym system for getting coins and stardust, I'd be happy if they would allow for manual collection. The last two days I've been on a few gyms that normally are turned over at least twice a day, but my stupid Azumarill (not even a Blissey or a Snorlax! An Azumarill!) has been stuck on one for 2 days, and my accidental CP 121 Paras has been on for more than a day now and NO COINS FOR ME!!!

ARGH!

Give me the option to recall a Pokémon to get the coins, or to just collect the coins, I'll be happy. Add in Stardust and I'll be ecstatic.

Or simply make rewards increase as gym defense time goes up.
Add a stardust reward, rare candy, or even items after a couple days.
That could even help out players in low turnover areas too.
E.g. it might be impossible for someone to find enough ppl to do T4/5 raids, so how about rewarding a 7 day gym defense with a TM.
But at that point they might as well give us daily/weekly quests.
Which I doubt they ever will, as nothing has been preventing them from doing that from the start.

I like the idea of rewarding people for holding gyms longer, but as it stands now holding gyms longer is more of a function of player apathy than player action. (ie: I'm not holding those gyms with the crappy Pokemon on them - other players are ignoring them.) There needs to be a change to the gym system to make it easier to intentionally hold gyms.

Right now, all I have to do is to wait until a gym hits a lower motivation and I can take it down in minutes. You can have a gym full of Level 40, 100% IV, Best Defensive Movesets, and it doesn't matter - unless those players are either at the gym directly to feed it berries or are feeding their Mons golden razzberries regularly, that gym will fall when I get off my butt and take it down. And even if they're using Golden Razz's, all I need to do is to wear them down and eventually they'll run out of Razz's or patience, and let the gym fall.

I can also see this as being ripe for abuse - I can think of at least two players in my area that I might actually enjoy screwing with if this came into place. They're a couple of players who take down 5-10 gyms every couple of nights and they don't care how long someone has been on a gym - I've had them take gyms from me literally as I'm walking away from the gym, so not even long enough to get a single coin. I would love to see them on a gym, then at, say, an hour before they would progress to the next level of reward, take down their gym and deny them that reward. Say that at 2 days they start getting Stardust - I would LOVE to be able to take them down 1 hour before Day 2 and deny them the Stardust reward. Or if they're up and defending with Golden Razz's, I'd probably keep taking down their Mons to the point that they needed to use a Golden Razz to boost it back up. Do that 3-4 times, make them use those Golden Razz more often than should be required, until either they give up or they're out of Golden Razz.

(--rant-- Seriously, (bleep) players who take down gyms within 10 min of someone else taking the gym. Particularly if they're taking down multiple gyms in an area and NOT prior to completing a Raid. You leave my gyms alone for 9 hours, let me get max coins, I'll leave your gyms alone for 9 hours and let you get max coins. Hell, I'm probably going to take your gym more often just so you get your coins. But if you're taking my gym that fast, and there isn't a Raid about to start so you're looking to gain those 2 extra damage balls/rewards? (Which I don't like, but I understand and accept.) You can sit on that gym for days for all I care. Screw those players.--/rant--)

So while I do like the idea of more rewards for longer defenses, that's too easy to abuse and too hard for defenders to work toward. Pokémon Go is already too much of a grind, we need ways to make it FUN, not more work.

Player numbers go up for a week or two, but due to lack of content they'll quickly come back down again.
Also I'm curious in what ways Niantic can/will **** up the weather system.

Why only 50? Why not the bloody whole thing? Oh well, who cares! New content, finally!!!

Ah, wait! Am I only getting water type pokemon? It rains everyday here... :`(
Will I need a new phone to process weather effects?

Oh, well... New content!! Can't believe it!

The old gym system had it's share of problems. I don't think the answer is to go back.
There are many things that could be done with the current system to make it not a joke. Uncoupling CP with motivation and allowing the manual collection of coins from defenders would be a good place to start.

More Pokemon is better!

Looking forward to swimming in an ocean to catch a whale.

I sure hope this comes with a sale on Pokemon storage. I need to add about 2 slots for every Pokemon available. So I need 100 new slots just for the 50 new Pokemon.

Also looking forward to the issues caused by players going out in thunderstorms to catch electric pokemon. Should be, ... interesting.

More importantly, aside from the obvious ones (fire, water, maybe grass and ground), what kind of weather makes psychic better? How about poison, or steel? Seems likely that dark and ghost like night better. We'll need a good, reliable source for this info so we can make smart decisions. P.S. would be happy if rain brings more Dratinis.

I was wondering the same thing, will Niantic be liable if players get struck by lightning? How can they know where dangerous weather conditions occur anywhere in the world? (New greeting: Do not play in a thunderstorm, tornado, blizzard....)

It will be interesting for sure.
