If you mean EX raid passes, then no, days shouldn't matter. If you mean normal passes, you get one a day, given you don't already have one, regardless of the day.

However, if you get a free raid pass today, but do not use it today, you can do two free raids tomorrow.

i mean ex raids
yes you use your daily free pass either one per day or 2 every other dayetc.

but then do you spread you gym coins out or hit up one big day

There are some hidden nuggets in the EX formula I'm starting to wonder about. If you are in a potential EX gym (park/public place) and just because you can solo a Machamp or Gengar 100% of the time doesn't mean you should. Allowing somebody else to piggyback could end up helping you. Next EX raid at my local EX hotspot is Monday 1pm, maybe raid during a lunch hour to show the mystery formula that you are willing to do so to get a Mewtwo.

Silph Road recently published an article on this topic. Factors that matter to get an ex pass according to their research are:
* gyms in parks or sponsored locations
* raising your gym badge level at the above types of gyms
*raiding at popular above gyms during popular times of day when other players are also raiding.

This. I also want to add it seems that the closer the raid is done prior to the ex pass handout, the better chances you have, based on finding #7 of the research article.

Actually it seems that it has to be in the past week, not necessarily closer than that. I would say raid at potential gyms once or twice a week should be enough.

So Soloing = "Bad" for getting EX Passes? (ie: doesn't improve your chances)

Hmm. That's interesting - annoying, but also interesting.

And can you link to the article? I'd like to see how they have defined "popular times of day when other players are also raiding". I'm hoping it means that if everyone in my area is raiding after 6pm, then after 6pm is the "popular time of day". Also what the "area" is for it - like if I'm 10km away from Downtown, and Downtown is raiding like a MF'er during 11:30-1:30 (the time just before, during, and just after lunch), but where I am most people only can do raids after work (so 5:30 - 7:30), is the "popular time" going to be 11:30-1:30 or 5:30-7:30? Will it matter if I'm 15km away? How far away do these area's have to be to change the "popular time"?

Etc.

There is no data to suggest that solo raids have lower chance of getting a pass.

It said that the ex raid would be scheduled for a popular time not that you would have a better chance of getting a pass if you raid at popular times. It is worth considering whether the popular times at that gym are doable for you. If the ex raid is going to be scheduled for a time you can't make, what is the point of getting a pass?
It also suggested raiding Wednesday and Thursday may increase you chances; but that was inconclusive.
