Fire type kind of useless?

I have 2 arcanines and flareon and charizard with perfect moves and high cp. I prefer using charizard because he is the coolest... But now that bugs are good(pinsir and scyther, especially pinsir) they kill exeg so fast with double weakness, and any other grass really, that I feel only lapras is a good way for the fires types? Snorlax is killed easily by machamp or rhydon now.. Im using pinsir to the grasses, and actually machamp is nice against lapras too, or stone edge rhydon... So why tha hell should i use fire now? Only to see the amazing charizard fire blast animation.. And thats it.

Bug type moves deal neutral damage to Grass/Poison types, so Fires still have that advantage, although personally I've not seen a grass type that's not Exeggutors in gyms in a long while. For me it's mostly just Vapes, Gyarados, Dragonite and Snorlax. Grasses don't place as highly in gyms since other top tier Pokemon got CP increases and on top of that they got reductions.

Also Snorlax doesn't have any super disadvantageous matchups. Snorlax is weak to fighting, but Fighting types have mediocre moves which negates that upside, enough that neutral attackers with STAB are more or less just as good, if not better.

It just depends on what people are using in your area, and what you have available to you. Not everyone has a Pinsir/Scyther to deal with Exeggutors.

I haven't even seen scyther yet, but I have 9 arcanines... and 3 more I sent to professor. So yeah.

Fire is good against bugs :)

I'm not clued up enough on Pokemon history to know what impact Gen 2 will have on fire's usefulness.

Fire will be more useful due to Gen 2 has a lot of steel/bug types. Also better grass type variety.

Well a really strong Arcanine will actually come on top vs a Lapras carrying only ice moves, plus Scizor is going to be great come gen 2 and you will want a fire type to punish the Steel/Bug typing, plus you will probably see Steelixes here and there

I do agree that fire types are less useful now, with the decline of grass types barring exeggutor and the rare venusaur and with the (further) rise of Vaporeon and gyarados, not to mention Rhydon
Especially since Arcanine got the unfortunate cp reduction

I agree his usefulness has declined but when gen 2 shows up it will rise a lot. Gen 2 is loaded with bugs, grass, and steel.

Arcanine is still my favourite Lapras killer, is there a more efficient option?

I tend to use a Jolteon - the type weakness means it's a quick kill if Lapras doesn't get too many charge moves off.

Overall Arcanine still comes out on top dps-wise vs Lapras. I have tried two maxed-out Arcanine and Jolteon with perfect movesets vs Lapras... even with dodging my Arcanine consumes less potions.

The only way that Pinsir actually kills an Egg faster than a Charizard or Arcanine is if the fact that Pinsir can use XScissor much more often than they can use Fire Blast makes up for the fact that WA/FF out DPSs Fury Cutter and FB out DPSs XScissor. I don't know if it does or not.

If you do end up ever fighting a high level gym again, you would be better off taking a Charizard or Arcanine than a Pinsir. In Level 10 Gyms you're gonna need your mons to average taking out 1.67 of the defenders to clear. Pinsir and Scyther are very pathetic against anything that isn't Exeggutor.

This is what I was going to write. Arcanine is more versatile than Pinsir, which is important against Level 10 gyms.

Little incorrect. Alakazam having high natural CP now is often a defender just to get higher slots in level 10 gyms. Pinsir is very good for that. Also he does great versus Slowbro, another common defender.

Incorrect. I have a 2300+ pinsir and a really good lvl 10 gym should have at leastc2 exegs in there. exegs are top defenders too, and pinsir REALLY takes them down with minimum damage, because furyc and xsci are crazy fast and makes dodges easy.

Fire Types are my default for my friend and childen and I to put in to Prestige against.

Typically 2 Flareons 1800-2200 with Heat Wave or Fireblast.

1 Level 20 Omanyte water/gun Hydro.

Beats both with no need to dodge (Water Gun then Hydro first, then finish first with Watergun. Start 2nd fight with Hydro off bat, watergun until 2nd Hydro ready and fire.

Neither Flareon will get off a Heat Wave/Fire Blast so
with Omanytes double resistance its about 1 potion a run.

Yields about 1400-1750 a run.

Then make sure you split u the double fire with say a 2000 Grass.
