Golem with Bizzare Defense distributions

So lower defense generates more energy for charge attacks, but how low should it get to be optimal? 0? Or is this search for 'crippled geodudes' a bit too extra?

I have this golem:
14/3/14 Level 30 RT/SE. Since it has 14 attack, it is not going to hit the final breakpoint for Ho-Oh, but does hit it for ninetales. Worth a shot at powering up?

I also have these geodudes available:
15/8/15 Level 30
15/5/15 Level 20

I don't have a golem shortage right now and I have 7 of them (37, 30, 30, 30, 30, 30, 29), it's just I'm not sure what to do with these low defense geodudes, should I actually considering powering up low defense geodudes?

Let's look at ninetales, at the final RT breakpoint of 37.5 your low def golem will take the same damage from either FS or FA as a perfect one, so no energy gain here. He will take 3 additional damage from overheat and 2 additional damage from HW, totaling 1-2 additional energy in case of overheat (depends on rounding) and 1 in case of HW. So let's say you tank 2 charges, you will gain an extra 2-4 energy, which will only make a difference in the rare case where you r missing these extra points for a full bar.
Only you can decide if it's worth the dust.

Wow, I never knew dropping 3 points in defense is still almost exactly the same as having the 15 defense for the actual 'defense' capability!

It's a load of crap. Someone came up with it as a means of being satisfied with their non-perfect defense IV mon.

Don't waste resources on it.

edit: I should be fair (like the above poster lol) and say that there are scenario's that make this strategy beneficial, but the requirements are specific, and as such anything you invest in will probably become redundant at some point.

You need large differences in base stats to have any significant impact on energy gain. i.e.: Lapras gains more energy Cloyster.

The small differences from IVs are not enough to create any large noticeable effect.
