Shaving after 8h 20min
Here where I am, it's very common for players to shave their own teammates, but only after they reach the 8h 20min mark. This way, the "victim" doesn't lose any coins, while 6 other players can get more coins. Gyms rarely last more than 4 hours here anyway.
Many players here call this "good shaving", while randomly shaving he first mon is "bad shaving". Shaving trash mons or super low CP mons is also considered "good shaving" here.
What do you guys think about this?

There are plenty of gyms near me that have extremely low turnover. I'm getting to the point where I want an alt account just to knock the whole thing down after an entire day, just so everyone can get their coins more easily.
Shaving, in general, isn't cool, but compared to the previous system, where the person who claimed final spot on the gym might have spent a ridiculous amount of time prestiging their spot and earning coins was rather reliant on holding as many gyms as possible for as long as possible, whereas now the spots are all immediately available and earning coins is based on mons being knocked out, the latter is by far the less dickish scenario in which to shave.
I think you misinterpreted the nature of my response. I'm saying I am considering adopting the practice of knocking down the entire gym my team controls (with me on it as well) after a 24 hr period so that every player holding a spot could earn their daily coins if they have yet to do so, and then reclaim the gym under the same team. This way, I wouldn't need to go demonstrably out of my way to claim gyms in an area farther away from my residence just because people rarely knock down the gyms near where I live.
Shaving your team is shaving your team....no matter how they justify it.
All they are doing is trying to find a way to claim it is acceptable, by making up 1 or 2 situations where it would be least offensive, that may or may not be relevant most of the time.
It's like putting perfume on your butt and claiming your s%&^ don't stink.
For a gym to last overnight here, you have to attack it at night, or berry feed aggressively at night. Players from all 3 teams always sweep the gyms here at 11pm.
Also, an enemy gym with defenders >8h 20min is an almost certain target for rival teams anyway. If a gym even lasts that long (which is rare here), it will often go down as soon as the defenders clear the mark.
I'm not defending their actions. I don't do this myself. But I'm wondering if it's ok to do this as it robs nobody of their gym income.
Some @$$#0£€ shaved me after a day in the gym. It was a pretty far out of the way gym too. I went back four days later to take it back only to find out I was shaved out of it and the other 5 people in there were still there.
This was not a gold gym for me. The gym lasted 9 days (would have been 10 for me) I would have had it gold between time spent defending and the thousand or so berries I would have tossed at it over ten days.
But its okay right because I was in it for 8 hours.
That this question has to be asked just shows how broken the current system is.
Back then, I would rather prestige blue gyms than attack red gyms. Gyms in Singapore rarely reached 50k prestige and even ten-Blissey towers built by foreign yellow spoofers would not last a day.
Now if a gym is blue and has six defenders, there is no way for me to get in and I can only strengthen the gym by feeding berries. Taking down yellow or red gyms is very difficult because the defenders are likely to be fed Golden Razz Berries.
This makes freeloading the most viable way to get into a gym, with shaving as the only consistent alternative. The main reason why I do not create a red account is that I have better uses for my time and energy.
It is always bad. I rarely can hold a gym longer than an hour, and I don’t want my mon shaved even if 8 hours have passed. I like the ability to remotely feed berries and to build up gym badges. Folks are just trying to justify their bad behavior by calling it “good shaving.” This city is overrun by cheaters.
