Too bad it cannot learn Sucker Punch as a fast move. I'd love a Sucker Ho.

I voted Brave because it's a move I never get to use on anything relevant. I already have Solar Beam on Exeggutor, Venusaur, Typhlosion, Parasect, etc. I already have Fireblast (or Overheat for that matter) on Charizard, Flareon, Moltres, Entei, etc. Brave Bird might not be terrific, but it's something different, and at L40, I'm starting to care more about diversity of experience than min-maxing.

We need more move variety, stat.

Agreed.

ES/BB will be awesome VS Machamp.

I already have lots of SoB mons and OH-FT ones for specific uses.

It's like Lugia where I prefer ES/SA over FS. I have some Psychic eggys, 2 Espeons and 2 Alakazams with FS so diversity and "new" moves are always welcome ;-)

and i'm pretty sure you can do Machamp with Just 1 Ho-Oh and 1 Mewtwo so for collectors/diversity trainers like mysefl that is great news not having to waste dust on 6 kazams...

After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that they all suck.

If the selling point for BB is its usefulness in Machamp raids, isn't it pretty much inferior in every way to DT/H Dragonite, other than that the Ho-oh is somewhat tankier? Dragonite has a higher attack stat, hurricane is considerably more powerful than BB, and DT with STAB does more damage to Machamp than ES with type effectiveness.

It's hard to think of a case where Ho-oh with fire blast measures up to Moltres or Entei with overheat as a fire attacker.

And sure, solar beam without STAB is still a powerful move, but for the same energy, STAB outrage or dynamic punch will do more damage in neutral scenarios, and where grass moves are super effective, SoB on Exeggutor hits.much harder. I suppose the SoB Ho-oh might be useful as a tanky anchor for 4- or 5-man Suicune raids, but I'm hard-pressed to come up with any other ideal uses.

Overheat or hurricane would not even come close to killing the meta. They would just make Ho-oh somewhat usable, instead of simply a pokedex entry. With hurricane, it still wouldn't be as good of a flying-type attacker as DT/H Dragonite, but it would be a reasonable option as a tanky alternative. Same with overheat as compared to FS/OH Moltres -- the Ho-oh with OH would not hit as hard as Moltres, and would lack a fire quick move, but it could serve as a tanky anchor.

Solar beam animation comes out of its cloaca.

ES/BB Ho-Oh makes an excellent neutral-anchor counter to the nastiest Ho-Oh raid boss, SW/SB.

For this moveset the only decent counters are Mewtwo, Dragonite, Zapdos, and (kind of) Jolteon and Raikou, and not everyone has access to these in numbers.

I think "Brave Bird" is just Ho-Oh flapping madly about you, while you split your sides from laughter at the ridiculous sight of this goofy bird, trip and injure yourself, +90 damage!

ES/BB is great for Machamp raids. The only problem is that raid bosses will surely rotate when Gen 3 drops, so the benefit may be short lived, unless another relevant fighting raid boss is added.
